Is anyone experiencing this constant network issues. It isnt really affecting my download speed or internet experience. I get as high as 20MB/s download speed(150mbps) and the lowest I get most times is 3MB/s(24mbps). And all my video streams in 4K(Netflix, Amazon Prime, Showmax, DSTV Now) all stream perfectly. But when I check the app and see this, I am usually wondering, is this normal. My dishy is placed somewhere with zero obstruction

easyyoke:Although you have quite a lot of 2s+ issues, which would normally be an indication of a faulty dishy, cable or router, especially given the interval you are having them. However, looking at your screenshot critically, there was a period of 6 hours, between 8pm and 2am, that you didn't experience any 2s+ obstructions. So I believe the problem is your location. Some locations, for some reason, do experience more activities than others, which triggers those obstructions and network issues reports. By the way, obstruction reports is normal, especially the 1s and less report. Everyone experience those. 1 Like |

Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by ibawon(m): 4:34pm On Apr 12, 2023 |
I actually have never checked this on my app. |
Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by Bonzojoko: 3:10am On Apr 13, 2023 |
easyyoke:happens to me as well but you won't notice it in your day to day use of starlink except in things like online gaming that needs a steady stable connection. Starlink is actually bad for online gaming. I now use MTN for that. I have zero obstructions according to the starlink app so the network issues are not due to obstructions

easyyoke: Yeah Starlink wasn't great yesterday. Nothing extraordinary, just one of those days. Tested 150Mb/s now seems it's back to it's best now.

ask4bk: Ok thanks sir, so do I basically have to purchase directly from the Starlinks official website? cuz I’ve been on the website to try to purchase while I was trying to I was asked to input I think 1. “service area” what does this “service area” mean?3. Is the data indeed 1terabyte/unlimited for each month?4. Also I read some people complaining about the network speeding dropping after awhile this drop in speed is it still reliable compare to our local connections? 5. Also are subscription payments made in dollar? 6. Let’s say I relocated from my primary location will it router function well in this new location as well? I might have other questions but can’t remember all at the moment if there are other things you think I should know that I haven’t mentioned before going ahead to purchase i would really appreciate if you informed me(us) overall I just want to know if its worth the amount I(we) be spending on it. “I’m new on Naira land I don’t know how to highlight or use other features”. |
Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by Stanley08(m): 4:06am On Apr 14, 2023 |
Snart303: 1. Service Address is your house address or the address you out when you were buying it. 2. Router is powered by mains. Nepa / Gen. By a wall socket. 3. It's unclear what the data cap is in Nigeria or if there's one at all however, 1TB Peak hours (7am-11pm) data is more than enough. 11pm - 7am data isn't calculated towards this 1TB as it's off peak data usage. 4. Lol. Every service has it's moments, everything has it's disadvantage. Starlink like DStv doesn't work well when it's raining but still, Starlink is in many ways the best ISP in Nigeria. Bang for buck especially. 5. Yes, charged from the same card you paid with on Starlink website. If you don't have a dollar card, check first post on the first page. Payment is $42.16 per month automatically debited. 6. You can change your service address if you move to a different address, I'm moving soon and will need to do so myself. Any other questions you have, you can read through the thread, most of those questions have been answered here and on Starlink's website. Cheers! Stanley08: Hi Snart303, I see this gentleman has helped you answer all your questions. I'll add some clarifications. 1. To get your accurate service address, go to your Google map on your phone with location turned on. Make sure you at the place you want the starlink installed. Find the place on the map and click on the spot. You'll see details about the place. You scroll up and you'll see the PLUS CODE of that location. That's what you'll put in the service address. 2. By AC current and consumes like 20-50w. There are technical ways of running it on DC current but don't think you'll need all that wahala. If not YouTube is your friend. 3. It's completely unlimited in Nigeria. 6. When you buy it comes with residential plan. With this it can only work on your one location. Outside it, it won't work. If you travel, you can be lucky enough to change service address like chairman said, but it's not guaranteed and will take time for starlink to recognise the change. And even if you succeed, when you return to where you were, you may not be able to change back the address to where you were before. Residential isn't for moving around. If you want to move around easily, you can while being in residential plan sub for portability feature which is extra $10. With that you can move around all Nigeria and in future all continent of Africa without wahala. Portability is being removed in the USA and may also be removed here too. So you are left with the next choice which is to change your plan to Roam plan. Here you pay $53 per month (that's what I'm using) and can move anywhere coz roam plan has no service address input. And you can pause for plan any month you don't want to use it. You can do that in residential, coz you must pay every month except you cancel starlink completely. Attached is example of plus code 1 Like

Stanley08: Lol, it's not like that joor I've bought for my branch office at delta state which has been delivered and installed early this month so I wanna pay for the subscription but it tells me unable to make payment Now I wanna buy for my office at Victoria Island but it's not available on the map that's why I'm asking if anyone makes use of it on the island |
Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by Stanley08(m): 5:58pm On Apr 15, 2023 |
Jaytee123jay: Okay. Starlink isn't available to order at the moment for most of Lagos. So you'll have to pay and wait in line I believe. |

Here is a video posted by someone who is using Starlink in Kwara, but the download speed he is getting is unreal and doesn't make sense. I really don't understand what's going on in that video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxEgse1q2QA |
Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by Bonzojoko: 12:15am On Apr 17, 2023 |
dustmalik:the max speed I have gotten in a speed test is 260mbps(32MB/s) and I have gotten it more than once but while downloading a large file like a video game of 40gb size, I download at an average speed of 15MB/s. Sometimes it goes up to 23MB/s before going back down to 15MB/s. You can only get high speeds by connecting to the 5ghz band. I don't know how he is getting unreal speed |
Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by dustmalik(m): 1:07am On Apr 17, 2023 |
Bonzojoko:If you watch the video, you would notice that his actual download speed, not downlink speed, is hovering around 200MB/s. That's why I said it's unreal. And yes, I also get similar speed as you stated. |
Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by toluxa1(m): 1:11am On Apr 17, 2023 |
I did advance speed test now and I don't understand how I'm getting this high speeds. Device to router speed shouldn't be more than Router to Internet speed. Maybe a glitch?
|
Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by Bonzojoko: 1:55am On Apr 17, 2023 |
toluxa1:must be a glitch in the matrix. Try downloading something to see the speed in MB/s |
Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by dustmalik(m): 1:56am On Apr 17, 2023 |
toluxa1:No, it's not a glitch. Device to Router speed test measures the quality of your connection from your device (Phone, PC etc) to the router. Typically, the closer you are to the router, the higher your speed. It's not an internet speed measure, just connection quality from device to the router. |
Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by Stanley08(m): 4:00am On Apr 17, 2023 |
toluxa1: Simply put, Left - What your device is capable of connected to that router/access point. (Speed between phone & router) Right - What the actual speed of your internet connection is. (Speed between Starlink & Satellite). So one is showing what your device can do. The other is showing what the actual thing it's doing is, lol. |
Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by Stanley08(m): 4:07am On Apr 17, 2023 |
dustmalik: Lol. It's PSX nau. He is using you guys to catch cruise. LMAO! That's the download speed between his PS5 & his laptop. The files are on his laptop. That's the speed it's transferring it from his laptop to his PS5. I mean the 240Mbps at the end makes it obvious. Because 200MB/s is 1.6Gbps Internet. HOW?! Lol. |
Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by Stanley08(m): 4:09am On Apr 17, 2023 |
Bonzojoko: Max I've gotten is 51MB/s that's 408Mbps. Only for a second. |

georgee: Omo…you for ask fess o. Reset the starlink by on and off about 6 times then set it up again as normal Then connect it to your router and setup but don’t enable the bypass yet. Until everything is working, don’t enable bypass. Tell me what router you are using if you need extra info on setting it up |

Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by seunpayne(m): 6:32am On Apr 18, 2023 |
georgee: This is very simple. Configure the starlink as you want and make sure it is working and then also reset the tplink and plug the Ethernet cable. Here is a fun fact, most of these devices are designed to work out of the box. So find the wifi signal of the router and connect to it. The password is usually written under it. Make sure both wifi networks are browsing (starlink and router). If they are then you are ready for some customization. Now connect to the tplink router and then open your browser (use a computer preferably) and go to 192.168.1.1 then hit enter. Username and password is admin Now you can go ahead and change the name of your wifi to match the name you gave the starlink upstairs and make sure the password is the same as well. Now test it. Browse from downstairs and move upstairs. Your phone would roam seamlessly without breaking signal. We are not done Now log into the starlink and separate the networks. Rename the 5Ghz band to something else. So now you have two networks. The 2.4ghz band is both upstairs and downstairs and then the 5ghz band is only upstairs. Now do three speed tests: 1. Speed test connected to the 5ghz wifi signal 2. Speed test connected to the 2.4ghz signal while you are upstairs 3. Speed test connected to the 2.4ghz signal while you are downstairs. Let’s see the results and we can advice further. So someone may tell you to give upstairs network and downstairs network two different names because of trouble shooting. This isn’t necessarily true. If you have an issue it’s one of two places. Either the router downstairs is having issues, in which case you will know by simply connecting to the 5ghz signal, or starlink is having issues which you would know the same way as well. I am not sure if this router has bridge mode but this initial setup should get you up and running for now. 1 Like 1 Share |

seunpayne: Thanks bro.. Will try it wen I get home tonight.. But u didn't mention 'bypass setting' or using the Starlink Ethernet Adapter.. Are u saying no need for me to go there on my starlink ROUTER or use the adapter? Then which if this TP-Link port should I plug in cable downstairs?

Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by CavendishPlex: 10:32am On Apr 18, 2023 |
From my limited knowledge about Starlink (as I haven't acquired one yet), I don't think there's a need for you to bypass the Starlink modem since you still intend having access to it upstairs in and around your bedroom. I'm of the opinion this might be useful for people who use the mesh system with multiple nodes scattered around the house. Meanwhile, if you have to use the Starlink adapter connected to the modem, the connected LAN cable will go into the port marked blue. The other four (4) ports are there for you to make a direct LAN connection between that router and a device e.g. your TV, laptop, etc., thereby bypassing the Wi-Fi connection from that router. georgee: |
