how is bini indigenous to Lagos? So, Bini man crossed Ondo state to be indigenous in Lagos? Your brain painning you? Also, Awori is Yoruba and so is Ijebu (another group indigenous to Lagos). The problem with you non-Yorubas who're obsessed with Lagos is that you don't even have basic sense.

This is Lagos island not Lagos State.

Just like Oyo state is different from Oyo town.

Enugu town is different from Enugu state

Lagos State is a Creation of the Nigerian military government.

By the way, there is nothing contentious in saying Lagos State is Yoruba land.

The whole of Nigeria once belonged to Royal Niger company as a private property. It doesn't mean there were no indigenous Hasuas in Kano or indigenous Igbos in Anambra at that time.

Once Tinubu becomes President and I get a job, I will give u 5,000 for Drink. You are too much.

I don't understand the grouse of these scholars trying to raise dust by claiming Lagos was administered differently as part of Nigeria, I think they are getting the concept misconstrued. That Lagos is no man's land is based on whether there are indigines inhabiting the space before the place was made FCT or declared colony by the British

This Rufai is beginning to sound like an illiterate.
Does he even know the meaning of colony?

By Rufai's logic Britain still "own" Nigeria and by extension every other country it colonised.

Hong Kong was under British rule for 136 years(1841 to 1997) that did not automatically
make it a British or no man's land.

BTW, Oba Dosunmu was one of the several kings ruling parts of Lagos then.

As to the British development he is talking about, let him name one surviving example of that.

I have noticed that most people that support peter obi and his Ibo agenda tend to have very low iq. Rufai's submission is basically, British colonized Lagos therefore Yorubas are not indigenous to Lagos. This is an indication of an inability to do basic logic. Colonization and indigenous status are two completely different things. Yet, this fool is employed to analyze news on Arise TV. Anyway, I'm not surprised. AriseTV is IPOB/LP TV station.

Did you clearly understand what you quoted?

I quoted to show that it was a Gun to the head kind of arrangement to the king. He didn't willingly sign away Lagos Island to be a colony . Same method the British used in British India and other colonies. The treaty was a gun to the head kind of treaty. Remember the reduction of Lagos had earlier occurred in 1851. So to now come and say it the way rufai is painting it is insensitive and is just him trying to push an agenda that won't hold. All the major players in Lagos for the past 500 years have Yoruba Names and Yoruba Culture. Colonisation cannot erase the truth. So the British colonised India and so what ? How does that affect the identity of an Indian during colonisation and before the Great partition?

What do they know .

This is the first thing we studied in Land Law in 400L.

By the treaty of cession of 1863, Lagos become a colony of the crown, meaning that Lagos was part of the British empire, whatever obtained in Britain was obtainable in Lagos, it was part and parcel of Britain, while the rest of Nigeria was divided into southern and northern protectorates.

And so? How does that invalidate the indigenous people the British met there? Knowledge without logic is a burden.

This politician that is pretending to be a journalist. Do you need any historian to tell you that people had been living in Ilu Eko before the arrival of the colonial masters.

List of Obas of Lagos:

Ashipa, founder of Lagos dynasty but not crowned as Oba of Lagos (c. 1682-1716)

Ado (1716–1755) first Oba of Lagos (son of Ashipa/Esikpa)

Gabaro (1755–1760)

Akinsemoyin (c. 1760-1775)

Eletu Kekere (c. 1775 - 1780)

It is really dumb of Rufai to attest that Lagos was owned by the British. Displaying a useless letter of cessation further proves Oseni's craze.

Abeg, who ceded Lagos to the British in the first place? For how much was Lagos purchased by the British to make Lagos theirs? Who did they pay to? Arise should be ashamed of Oseni for all these senseless talks.

👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼You are just too much! It's high time all these ignoramuses are enlightened to be able to differentiate Eko (Lagos Island) from the entire state. It takes only a mad person to drag another man's heritage, claiming it's no man's land. Kano (North West) is Hausa state, Anambra (South East) is Igbo state, Lagos State ( South West) is Yoruba state!

Lagos is a white mans land. Anyone that knows the history of Nigeria knows this. Whites literally planned it, built and and developed the city. The way tribalist Yorubas claim Lagos and insult Igbos specifically as if there beloved city wasn't built and designed by whites? And whites only ALLOWED Yorubas to take over when they were tired.. Only the Igbos fought and resisted colonialism and are paying the price today. Meanwhile Yorubas and Hausas continue to dine with and give all the resources of the country to whites in UK. Nigeria is a shythole currently and yet its still Igbos they are upset with, despite ruling the pathetic nation in to such a sorry state for the past 40 years. Its pathetic how Africans are so stupid and destroy themselves for the benefit of whites.

From 'no man's land,' to 'Bini land,' and now 'white man's land.' You Ibos are so obsessed with Lagos. We have told you that if e sure you go and call your white masters to come and collect it. A bi what are they waiting for? Bini transversed Ondo and Ogun states to come and be indigenous in Lagos? Now, the british transverse atlantic ocean to come and be indigenous in Lagos. No wonder Nigerians reject peter obi. you okoros are very dull in thinking.

So technically, we can just say Lagos has colonial origins. I remember learning this in Nigerian History class.
The sad thing is that a lot of people won't agree with this.
Lagos just happens to be in the South-west region of Nigeria, but its not the land of the Yoruba; its a border state. If you like call it Eko from now till tomorrow.

Mr. Okoro so the Yorubas are not indigenous to Lagos but the British who had to cross the atlantic to get here are the indigenous ones? Either your iq is single digit or you're completely colonially brainwashed. Pick one.

When would this people learn to know that Lagos Island is different from Lagos State .....
Lagos State was formed by other contributing states in the south west Lagos Island is just too small to make a state how much a country .....
The British also colonized other to regions in Africa but the natives are still regarded as the owners of the Land.....
I stay in St. Vincent it's another country still having British influence the British don't go about claiming ownership since the Land wasn't empty ...
They met people there
