The Nigerian Labour Congress are the founders of the Labour Party. The initial chieftains of the party and it’s first elected official were all Yoruba. It is not by any means an “Igbo party”. This country will never move on from its tribalistic roots. It’s time we have the conversation of if we want to remain one country or not at this point. We can’t still be having these same old conversations about which tribe owns what in 2023.

Mimiko ran under Labour Party but the party as it was then was strongly allied to PDP & GEJ.

What is labour party today should not be considered the same party Olusegun Mimiko was part of, some forget that there are still legal/ contentions issues with regard to it's leadership and national excos.

I think Donald Duke was a member and sought to contest the 2019 elections under the banner of said party.

If the NLC indeed registered LP in 2002 one should then ask who was the leader of the NLC in 2002 and what was the alliance of the NLC in those years, the answer is simple the NLC was allied to the remnants of the Nadeco movement strongly anti Obasanjo and PDP

Ipob is using it now.

It was registered by NLC but to me that party is more or less an affiliate to PDP.
Most of the contestant in LP party have always decamped from PDP whenever there is internal crises in PDP but they will later go back to PDP after they achieved their goal.

The 1st ever Governor in LP in person of Dr Olusegun Mimiko decamped to LP from PDP, he won the Governorship election in Ondo state.

After Mimiko 8 years tenure he decamped to PDP again.
Another candidate I think Olusola Oke (not sure though) also decamped from PDP to LP to run for the gubernatorial election in ondo state after Mimiko tenure.

In short, all the aspirants in LP always come from PDP when there is crisises and they usually go back after the drama.

Mimiko of ondo state, Olusola Oke , Micheal opeyemi bamidele of ekiti, Peter Obi of anambra , Gbedebo RV of Lagos among others they all belong to PDP

Labour Party got the first national recognition through Mimiko and he performed wonderfully well throughout his 8 years tenure.

The Igbo appropriated Nigerian Peoples Party, NPP, of Alhaji Waziri Ibrahim in 1979, forcing him out of the party he invested so much much in. He later went on to found Great Nigeria Peoples Party, GNPP. Now, the Igbo have again appropriated Labour Party founded by Nigerian Labour Congress. They founded APGA but could not nurture it into being a national party as the Yoruba did Alliance for Democracy, AD! Their current messiah ran on APGA platform but left suddenly to contest an election on the platform of PDP, imagine! They almost snatched PDP from President Jonathan. They named him Ebele Azikiwe and generally became the Lords of the Manor during his presidency. They cannot start a thing and follow it to a fruitful end. This people!
