Land isn't an issue.
Simple partnership with Ogun state solves that.

Oga stop living in deceit. Go and Look at Africa's largest Solar power plant in Egypt the land mass is equal to twice the land mass of Surulere and it is just hundreds of Megawatts it generates, now imagine the landmass for 1GW? This man is throwing format for how they are going to siphon money. Keep allowing them to deceive you

For a coastal city like Lagos, harnessing wind energy from the Atlantic Ocean would have been better and more cost effective.
This can still be done.
They can't start using all sources of renewable power generation once.

BTW, Information available in open source confirms that Solar plants are cheaper than wind turbine, considering same generation capacity.

Kudos to Lagos State Govt.

Apparently you know little about the industry.

Solar farms can be built on water sir.
Don't rush to conclusion.
See good in good news like this, we don't have to bring sentiment or politics to it.

Since you're too lazy to do research yourself. Lagos generates 77 billion naira monthly now imagine yearly and this below par infrastructures are what we are boasting of.

People are too shallow minded to check all these things. Educated yet illiterates. Leave them jareh.

No SE state is seizing this opportunity now o. Igbos will not ask their governors why they did not plan for this law given the information they had.
Igbos won’t mandate their governors and state legislators to maximize this opportunity now o.
When Lagos starts enjoying 24hrs electricity, they will start saying they developed Lagos and it is no man’s land.
Awon werey alasho!

Let every state generate their own power and let those who have more than they can use sell to other states. Abolish that scam called national grid!

You still need a grid if you're going to sell excess power you don't need.

It's actually not new. Bola Tinubu started the IPP in lagos years ago. It was an Independent power project that was done in Lekki I think. Then Fashola continued and commisioned another. It's still in use till now.
They should have just developed more but Ambode kicked against everything Fashola.
Hate him or love him (BAT), I knew what lasgidi was like before 1999 and after, most especially Oshodi, where the roads were so bad, you needed to look for a place where rocks were arranged to cross the road or you enter the mud to cross and then pay some folks to wash your legs. BAT really tried.
If each person that comes into government delivers a major project, we will soon find it hard to get big projects to work on. That is a steady way to development. My own opinion.

The difference is that electricity generated from those IPP's are added to the national grid. That will change now with the new law

The Truth On Our Electricity:
If anybody in Nigeria still loves the way and manners the Electricity is working today in Nigeria, that fellow is an enemy of the Nation!
A serious govt salvo is to dissolve the DISCOS and makes it People's friendly by delivering the light 24/7 and failure to do that, we can't get the Industrial Revolution that other nations are enjoying! Where are the Dunlop industry?
Many left to nearby Countries because of lights and other things!
If any State in Nigeria can't generate their Light, they can buy from those generating and pay for it.
Many Nigerians States are too lazy ,as the governors can't even account for the NBILLIONS being collected from the Federal Allocations.

I understand your point. But;

Wind energy is not friendly to animals. Animals could be dieing..

It’s not also reliable. You know wind blows at various speeds, it’s hard to predict the amount of energy it can collect at any given time..

So, even if we using wind energy, we’ll still need another form of energy to generate electricity..

Exactly. Wind energy is only good for smaller projects... Maybe like an estate, not a large city like lagos.

Yeah, you've been unveiling 4th mainland bridge since 1999.

Eko Atlantic was also "unveiled" around the same year...

But kudos to thr Lagos state government. They sure know how to get their super fans excited with anticipated super mega projects (a.k.a pseudo bragging rights) that make little or no difference in their personal lives. One month from today, they will face flood again; face heavy traffic again; and battle it out with agberos and offensive "gutter" and waste management.

Make no mistake, those enjoying awa Lagos do not get this much excitement. I mean, those paying heavily in private estates around the lekki corridor for security, water, drainage, orderliness, etc.),.

There is no way you will pay a private estate N5 million per annum on rentals and praise "Sanwo Eko".

But is still far better than what your own state government is providing for the residents of your own backwater state capital. If not, you would have relocated back home since.

Or, what is still keeping you in "bad" Lagos till now? The huge money you are extorting from the gullible people still dey sweet you?

Most were babies when Tinubu ruled Lagos. Black race are fool of hatred. I knew how Lagos was before tinubu came to power in 1999. Is it Surulere to national stadium side, Ebute meta to yaba up to WAEC office, palm groove to somolu to gbagada. Even isale eko in Lagos island was transformed then because you can not work freely. Tinubu really tried in Lagos. My reservation is the age but l believe he can appoint a right people in different sector. He performance was what made his party to capture all the SW state then. It is high time we stop hating unnecessarily.

You are absolutely correct. I have a copy of Time Magazine that deals with the challenges that Germany and other countries face with wind energy.

Large-scale solar energy projects occupy precious land and water space as well and I'm not a big fan of that.

Mixed energy sources are the best for any country though.

Oga you're not making any sense. That is how it is done in the US and other developed countries. Check your facts before talking. Home owners can generate their own electricity and sell to the grid.

States that can produce electricity can sell to the discos, it's that simple. Or do you suggest that each state should build new infrastructure because they want to sell power? Do you know how much it will cost? When will the recover that money?

As it is, all the infrastructure that connect your houses to electricity belong to the discos and the power company. They already have the hardware on ground and it will take a stupendous amount of money for any state or independent company to replicate their reach. So their is no such thing as state grid.
