You're deluded if you think that will spare them from violence if the Fulanis in the north decide to carry out reprisals for what is being done to their kinsmen in your region. It's as if you're unaware of just how often in Nigerian history Igbos have been lynched en-masse in the north for a lot less justification.

The bottom line is this: if this spirals out of hand into a series of reprisals, there are a lot more Igbos at hand in the north than there are Fulanis in Igboland, and those northern Fulanis are a lot more comfortable with firearms, living off the land and engaging in guerilla warfare. Ignore all this if you like, but no amount of justification on your part will change this harsh reality, no matter how "rational" said justifications may seem to you.
