Is It True That The Bible Is Not Against Divorce? by Nobody: 7:31am On Apr 16, 2023
The issue of divorce in the Bible is a complex one and open to interpretation. While some biblical passages seem to permit divorce under certain circumstances, such as adultery (Matthew 5:32) or abandonment by an unbelieving spouse (1 Corinthians 7:15), other passages emphasize the importance of marriage and discourage divorce (Matthew 19:6).

Ultimately, how one interprets the Bible's teachings on divorce may depend on a number of factors, including one's cultural and religious background, personal experiences, and beliefs about marriage and divorce.

Therefore, it would be incorrect to make a blanket statement that the Bible is against or not against divorce, as there are both permissive and restrictive passages regarding divorce.
But what do you think?

Do you think that the bible is against divorce?

1. There is nothing complex regarding the isue because it is simply meant to be as stated in the Law. Those who are of the Kingdom of God are called to abide by the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ which constitutes the Constitutional Law in the Kingdom of God, God's Special Nation of Priests - Exodus 19 vs 6. The law does not in fact submit that divorce, in and of itself, is sin against God. Rather, in Matthew 5 vs 32, you find an interesting law which as a legal mind, you are bound to find interesting assuming you really care about this subject. undecided

2. That book is meant to be digested as written and in pretty much the same way you would digest text written with similar language. undecided

3. If you have ever attended a course on logic, you would probably remember hearing something like for each unique true/false question, there exists only one Truth -- everything other answer is false. Well, there can be only one truth to the question,"Did Jesus Christ state that divorce is sin in the Kingdom of God?" undecided

When you close your eyes in death, you will beg to care about what the bible says but it will be too late.

God has his principles for marriage.
God hates divorce. Malachi 2:16.

The worse of all happening today is divorcing and remarrying. That is adultery.
Biblically only the death of a legally married partner permits one to remarry.
Matthew 19:4-9

14 You ask, ‘Why is the Lord not happy with our gifts?’ The Lord knows that you men have not done the right thing with your wives. When you married as a young man, you promised to take care of your wife always. But you have sent her away, when the law says that you must stay with her as your wife. 15 The Lord has joined you together, as a man with his wife. Your body and your spirit belong to him. Why did God put you together? He wanted you to have children who would belong to him. So think carefully about how you live. Do not leave the wife that you married when you were a young man.

16 The Lord God of Israel says this: ‘If a man sends his wife away from him, I hate that!

God hates divorce. He also expressly let’s know here in this text that a woman can divorce her husband if he has have a lifestyle of cruelty to her- emotionally, physically etc. (see verse 15) - The KJV says, let none deal treacherously against the wife.

Treachery means disloyal, faithless, false, perfidious, and traitorous. While all these words mean "untrue to what should command one's fidelity or allegiance," treacherous implies readiness to betray trust or confidence.

God understands why a woman or man can leave the spouse on these things. He will be against the offender. God allows divorce based on these things. Yet, He hates undue, unnecessary, divorce and its effect, effects that are also present in just divorces.

According to Jesus himself, "he that divorces and marries another has committed ADULTERY! (Matthew 19:9)" and "God hates divorce". The exception Jesus gave was if the wife committed adultery, and that is the reason the man divorces her.
If you divorce and you don't remarry, no offence taken. There's some context to this, and its bordered on adultery. Why?
The law says thou shall not commit adultery. So when a (married) man sees a woman he wishes to sleep with, he goes to divorce is current wife, and then goes to marry that woman, and it was a common cycle among them. So the primary reason for divorce among the people those times was because of lust for another woman. If you connect the dots you will see why God hates divorce (adultery), and why "he that looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery in his heart".

(MODIFIED ....)
Getting married again (most likely due to adultery in the heart) is what Jesus emphasised, and this is what should be in anybody's mind. So ask these questions (men and women).

Answer should be NO -
* Are you getting divorced because there are beautiful ladies out there, or there are rich guys out there? Is that why you easily give up on your marriage?
* Are you divorcing because you have money, or you're sexy and people will rush you? Is that why you can't be loving, caring and humble?
* Do you already have "insurance" - another person you quickly fall back to when you divorce?
* Is it because your spouse's good situation changed to bad - finance, health, etc.?
* Any other thing that gives you the upper hand as a partner in marriage, and if you divorce? Does that encourage you to divorce?

Answer should be YES -
* Did you genuinely, with all your strength, prayers and patience, try to make your marriage work?
* Do you face serious physical or psychological dangers by staying in the marriage?

YES is better -
* You don't know where to pick your life up from, or what future holds after divorce? Will the uncertainty likely get you closer to God?
* Did your spouse commit adultery and you can't live with it? (there's place for forgiveness though)
* Do you intend to stay single after divorce?
* Can you be celibate?

The point of all the above is to search yourself through and through and be sure that your reason for divorce is not due to your own lusts (and selfishness), but rather, because you face genuine physical or mental trauma.
And don't just be religious! A Christian's companion is the Holy Ghost. What did He tell you concerning the matter?

I think something worth more considering is why is it the womenfolk who ask for divorce more like men don't go through abuse. And if you check well, wives of poor men don't ask for divorce, it's the wives of the rich

1. why is this worth considering? If a man chooses to stay in what he considers an abusive relationship that is his choice. Why you think a woman must stay when commonsense tells her not to is beyond me. undecided

2. Probably because such women have nothing to fall back on and so suffer for as long as they can. This ain't rocket science really. undecided

It is because the poor are more religious than the rich. The rich can afford choices the poor would only see in their dreams.

There are sins you have not dreamt of, simply because you cannot afford them right now. When you encounter the gold rush, you might go haywire.
