Most PDP senators are from the Atiku faction. PDP does not have a single senator from Abia, Enugu, Benue and Oyo.

In politics, the opposition will always counter the moves of the ruling party. Hence the PDP and LP will not support any candidate that gets the endorsement of Tinubu and APC.

If Tinubu supports Orji Uzor Kalu, they will vote for Akpabio. If Tinubu supports Akpabio, they will vote Orji Uzor kalu.

Voting against the decision of the ruling party is strategic for the opposition parties because it will empower them to lobby for chairmanship of juicy committes if they sucessed in determing the senate president.

That is what PDP did in 2015. They made Saraki the senate president and he gave PDP the deputy senate president. If PDP had supported Lawan in 2015, they will not be able to hold him to ransom since he was the choice of APC.

Akwa Ibom Senators will go with Akpabio they will not go for Orji Kalu
They will not die for Atiku
Tinubu has more to offer them

Cross River Senators will go with Akpabio over Orji Kalu take it to the Bank

Orji Uzor Kalu is closer to the PDP and LP than Akpabio. All he needs to win is to get the votes of 80% of the opposition senators.
Hence if the senators from PDP and LP decide to spit on Tinubu, it is game over for Akpabio.

Election will be by secret ballot hence APC will not be able to identify which of her senators that vote against her directive.

Politics is about interest and not sentiment. Majority of PDP senators are aware that they will have more bargaining power in the senate if they decide the next senate president against the directive of the ruling party.

ACN did this in the house of rep in 2011 and became very influencial. PDP did it in the senate in 2015.

Hence if Tinubu and APC back Akpabio, PDP senators will simply support Orji Uzor Kalu. If Tinubu and APC back Orji Uzor Kalu, PDP will support Akpabio.

That is how politics is been played at the parliament.

Akpabio is the next SP, Orji Uzor Kalu is going to disgrace himself if he choose to contest against the APC preferred candidate. Senator Barau will become the Senate Leader.
Kalu has never for once hide his treacherous character, he went on a national tv to lie that Lawan is the PMB's candidate for the party ticket and also said if the SE will not have the ticket then the North should continue, he won his seat with over 40,000 votes and Tinubu scored less than 10,000 votes in is state and he intentionally void his vote...
Orji Uzor Kalu will be a floor member in the 10th senate if you can't see this then wake up.

It is unfortunate that most Nigerians are very shallow in their reasoning.

Orji Uzor Kalu and Lawan have been friends for over 30 years. Both of them are classmates from University of Maiduguri. For Orji Uzor Kalu to stand behind Lawan even when the odds are against him winning the primary shows he is a trustworthy politician that a president can rely on to led the parliament if they become allies.

Compare that to Akpabio. A man that PDP changed his own rule to make the minority leader. Yet when the PDP needed him most, he ran to the ruling party. This means that if either Atiku or Obi succeed at the court and becomes president, Akpabio will dump Tinubu and APC and join the then ruling party.

The treacherous person here is Akpabio. He is a political gold digger that has no permanent ally in politics.

APC national chairman , Adamu was the one that announced Ahmed Lawan, as the consensus candidate. Kalu decided to fully support his friend when it becomes clear that SE is not part of APC calculation. He was ready to go down with his friend when the entire APC governors throw their weight behind Tinubu.

At that time, Akpabio was calculating where the pendulum will swing. He was initially supporting Osinbajo. When he realized Osinbajo was far behind, he brought his own form why closely monitiring Ameachi and Tinubu.

Once he realized that the APC northern governors have decided to back tinubu, he suddenly becomes Tinubu's loyalist. He was even the first to step down at the primary in a display of his opportunistic nature.

I will not be surprise if Akpabio becomes the Senate president because our leaders love sycophants and opportunist That is why another bitter opportunist called Wike is now Tinubu's ally.
