Painful, but I have my own queries about the man's narration of events.
First, maybe he meant resident in O&G,so a trainee obstetrician.
Secondly, unless you are a senior resident,no training specialist hospital would allow a junior resident carry out any surgery without supervision.
Thirdly,I really doubt the narration of the meeting he had with the CMD.Did the CMD say those words about a "student doctor" and reimbursement if he hadn't paid?
He also mentioned 22 pints of blood being requested, that is about 11 litres when the human body has about 5-6litres of blood in total!
Lastly, assuming it was a resident that performed the initial surgery, the subsequent management after the complication would not only have been reviewed and overseen by a consultant O& G specialist but by internal medicine and other surgical consultants since the kidney was affected and dialysis had to be done.
It's painful news and now that he has gone to the social media, the hospital will hopefully come out with their own version of events and at least let the man and public get accountability and to also restore faith in the Hospital because if it happened the way he said,a lot of questions will be begging for answers.

exactly my brother. U understand how the system run, so let them produce the facts of the case and solve it amicably

Does a student doctor even have the right to operate, person wey be apprentice....wey still dey learn work.

That's the job of surgeons. A student doctor can be in the theatre just to assist.

But in the zoo hospital, anything goes!

RIP to the dead, and may God give those she left behind the fortitude to bear the loss.

I always advise people to go to Federal Medical centers or State University teaching hospitals, and leave all these private quack hospitals that has only one fake doctor that claims to know all.

blame them scrawny ass lazy senior doctors

Why do they always induce labor? What happened to just letting nature take it's course? Is it possible that's what caused the bleeding?

Secondly, I don't understand telling a man who just lost a wife at childbirth to pay 600k. I almost cried the moment I read that. May God take care of His people and forgive our sins.

What do they mean he shouldn't sure because the government is involved? Indirectly trying to cover their asses. Sure the hospital- government-owned or not. It's just that the judicial process in Nigeria is hopeless.

So sorry for this man's loss. May God have mercy on us all. Amen.

I usually don't like to comment on threads like this because the Nigerian public hates doctors and their minds are already made up irrespective of any explanation you may give.
However, that wasn't a medical student. The doctor is likely a resident in training, but definitely not a student.
2) Hysterectomy (removal of the womb) can be done as a last resort to save the patient's life when all efforts to stop the bleeding has failed.
3) The bleeding caused reduced blood supply to her kidneys, making them shut down, leading to kidney failure and subsequent dialysis.
It's a very sad story and unfortunate outcome.

What Hospital does one get the Best, professional Hands?
is it Private Hospitals?

Most hospitals are only interested in the money you spent not service delivery.

This is so sad and tragic…..heart goes out to the husband and the kids. May her soul find repose.

Something that’s supposed to be seamless has taken the life of an innocent woman due to the negligence of the hospital management and the quackery, inexperience and incompetence of the junior doctor/surgeon.

They hospital and it’s management should be sued alongside the overzealous doctor who should be charged for manslaughter. Even though it’s an irreparable loss they should be made to pay for it so they’d know and do better going forward.

God bless you sir!

Nigerian doctors are endangered species. The worst thing is that they will put "NIGERIAN " doctor.very insulting.
Making judgement on what they know nothing about
1.They have not heard the hospital and the Doctor side of the story.
2.They know nothing about managing such a medical case.

And they have hurriedly started descending on the doctors. No sane doctor should remain in the country.Nigerians deserve not to be treated at all!

Please don't induce delivery. Please don't induce delivery. Please don't induce delivery. Please don't induce delivery. Please don't induce delivery. That stuff causes major bleeding in some women, not all, but some. Some will induce labor by drinking one oil like that, I've forgotten the name but pregnant women knows it and pharmacy sells it. Please if you have a wife, patience is the key, no rush go induce. Let nature take its course. You might be Lucky you might not. Please don't induce delivery. Please don't induce delivery.

I was nearly killed by a nurse last week, I was given an injection which I never needed and when I complained of the heart attack with a severe breathing issues, they never bothered, they administered the same injections the following day, watching me gasping for air.

I was rushed to another hospital and admitted for 5 days. I'm currently battling heart issues caused by a nurse. May God help us.

Why will a student Doctor be allowed to undertake a delivery process when some of them cannot prescribe drug for malaria what a normal regular nurse will do, now the woman is dead what can they do to payback the husband and family NOTHING, even they sue the entire Nigeria medical council. what should be done now to make sound a note of warning to the NMA that hence forth let no student doctor go near any patient that needs to be operated upon, if you do, it will cause you your license, however the student Doctor involved in this case should face the music for murder.

A lot of factors can lead to post partum hemorrhage not just uterine rupture. Removal of the uterus has to be the last resort iafter everything else has been done to curtail the bleeding. How did the student doctor come up with the diagnosis that the uterus has been ruptured and has to be removed? Which treatment did they administer to stop the bleeding before deciding to remove the uterus? Was the operation supervised buya specialist? The hospital has a lot of explaining to do
The next thing is for you to caution all these nairalanders posters who have no answers to this question but have turned themselves to arbiters!

So because of thie now they are not the best.

To be honest, I can't say. Years ago, I would have said Teaching hospitals because of the wide range of experience the doctors there would have. You'd have Professors, Consultants and Residents all with various input. But now that even a Paediatric Professor is leaving Nigeria to start Residency in the US, I'd hesitate to recommend anything.
I graduated over a decade ago and I'd say only 10% of my classmates are still in Nigeria right now. The country is just existing on vibes and cruise.
Make una just dey hail the doctors wey still remain for naija.

First of all there is nothing like student doctor. Maybe a doctor on housemanship? A medical student? A doctor undergoing residency for specialization. From the way this as been written. It's a doctor undergoing housemanship being referred to as "student doctor" A doctor undergoing housemanship has not yet received his medical license. He is just an MBBS graduate in a teaching hospital. There should be a licensed doctor in charge of EVERY patient at all times.

Where was the licensed doctor?

This should be the question we are all asking! The licensed doctor should also be on site at all times. Some of the consultants leave their govt assigned jobs to do operations at private clinics leaving the patients in the hands of doctors under training. I remember at some point I had a surgery in LUTH. The consultant was not in the hospital and was just making calls with the resident doctors on how to go about things. If something happened during the operation nko that needed his expert hands on attention right away. By the way resident doctors already have their medical license and are under training to become specialist. Yet, this is wrong. The consultant should always be on site for every surgery. Abroad he must even be in the room during the operation otherwise if anything goes wrong and the patient sues, he will be in trouble. But you know Nigeria is the land of lawlessness. angry angry angry

Hysterectomies have been a recognised management protocol for post partum haemorrhage for close to half a century. Matter of fact, in category 1, 2 and 3 Caesarean Sections in most centres, pregnant women are required to provide consent for hysterectomies, prior to C/S surgery.

Merely a response to your post. Nothing to do with the accused in this thread.
Maybe the blogger/Reporter is not reporting or titling this sad Fatal unfortunate event correctly, he is probably being mischievous or deliberately twisting facts.

With all this money, you should have registered her at a private hospital. But how can someone labour from Monday to Wednesday without any alternative means only in Nigeria cheesy RIP to the woman.

Exactly, labour should not exceed 24 hours after inducement. The baby must either come out itself or through operation after 24hrs of inducement. I think the delay omin labour caused the bleeding which resulted in the quack doctor decision to remove womb. Imagine say bleeding dey, and doctor dey tell u say only solution is to remove womb. Lol.
