A Nigerian man, Oghogho Sunday, has taken to social media to accuse a student doctor of causing the death of his wife during childbirth at a government-owned hospital in Edo state, IGBERETV reports.

A post he shared on Facebook read;

Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people. When 80% - 90% of the people in the land are negligent, careless, lack morals, disregard ethics, uphold profit above all else, pervert justice, lie, steal, wicked, unruly and without conscience there is no evil that will be lacking in such a land. Imagine a doctor reporting his gross negligence and boldly telling a victim that he can never get justice. Nigerians are the architect of their own sorrows. A land of impunity, evil, lies and utter wickedness. A land filled with people who claim they believe in GOD but are capable of evils that will shock atheists to the marrow. So sad.

You shouldn't always believe what you read. This is impossible for anyone to say so brazenly. I'm actually awaiting the rebuttal from the hospital management.

It would still get to FP.

To all those Nairaland males who keeps talking these and that sh!t about marriage; know this, you cannot underestimate or sideline the importance of a woman/wife in a home.

You feeling very emotional because it's a woman, you wouldn't feel as much as this if it were a man.
A woman is important, yes we know. A man is as well more important

Go and learn and stop being stupid.

CS hysterectomy is the last resort for a woman whose bleeding could not be controlled after labour.such outcome is rare.Durinh hysterectomy, damage to the ureter is one of the other rare complications

Ignoramus.
In cases of PPH, you can remove the womb.

I usually don't like to comment on threads like this because the Nigerian public hates doctors and their minds are already made up irrespective of any explanation you may give.
However, that wasn't a medical student. The doctor is likely a resident in training, but definitely not a student.
2) Hysterectomy (removal of the womb) can be done as a last resort to save the patient's life when all efforts to stop the bleeding has failed.
3) The bleeding caused reduced blood supply to her kidneys, making them shut down, leading to kidney failure and subsequent dialysis.
It's a very sad story and unfortunate outcome.
Bro, I didn’t bother to comment on the topic. The teeming hate and ignorance from the populace on doctors is mind boggling. If they actually believe a student doctor can deliver, operate and transfuse a patient, they can equally believe a student lawyer can give judgment in the Supreme Court

Sounds very unlikely a medical student would be allowed to do a C-section especially in a government hospital. Maybe they meant a resident doctor - but again this should have been done under supervision of a consultant.

Sadly, someone has lost her life as a result of poor care provided.

Residents do C sections without consultant supervision. It's a sub major op

God bless you sir!

Nigerian doctors are endangered species. The worst thing is that they will put "NIGERIAN " doctor.very insulting.
Making judgement on what they know nothing about
1.They have not heard the hospital and the Doctor side of the story.
2.They know nothing about managing such a medical case.

And they have hurriedly started descending on the doctors. No sane doctor should remain in the country.Nigerians deserve not to be treated at all!
Anytime I have doubts about staying back in Nigeria, I come online and read all these ignoramuses spew trash, then I muster up the strength to get out. I can't practice where I'm not wanted. Simple

To be honest, I can't say. Years ago, I would have said Teaching hospitals because of the wide range of experience the doctors there would have. You'd have Professors, Consultants and Residents all with various input. But now that even a Paediatric Professor is leaving Nigeria to start Residency in the US, I'd hesitate to recommend anything.
I graduated over a decade ago and I'd say only 10% of my classmates are still in Nigeria right now. The country is just existing on vibes and cruise.
Make una just dey hail the doctors wey still remain for naija.
Hail? Are you not seeing the abuses we get for doing our job? How can a doctor decide to stay back with all this hate?

First of all there is nothing like student doctor. Maybe a doctor on housemanship? A medical student? A doctor undergoing residency for specialization. From the way this as been written. It's a doctor undergoing housemanship being referred to as "student doctor" A doctor undergoing housemanship has not yet received his medical license. He is just an MBBS graduate in a teaching hospital. There should be a licensed doctor in charge of EVERY patient at all times.

Where was the licensed doctor?

This should be the question we are all asking! The licensed doctor should also be on site at all times. Some of the consultants leave their govt assigned jobs to do operations at private clinics leaving the patients in the hands of doctors under training. I remember at some point I had a surgery in LUTH. The consultant was not in the hospital and was just making calls with the resident doctors on how to go about things. If something happened during the operation nko that needed his expert hands on attention right away. By the way resident doctors already have their medical license and are under training to become specialist. Yet, this is wrong. The consultant should always be on site for every surgery. Abroad he must even be in the room during the operation otherwise if anything goes wrong and the patient sues, he will be in trouble. But you know Nigeria is the land of lawlessness. angry angry angry
How someone would wake up and past trash with his full chest, is beyond me undecided

Castor oil doesn't always work. In fact its only on 5%, probably a placebo. There are cases one has to induce labor especially if there is post date gestation

people who have have no business in the health sector keep finding their way in there.

People are supposed to be fired, resign, license withdrawn following this disastrous event so serve as a lesson

But as usual Nigeria will Tap the fellow on the back. Encourage them to continue.

They asked people to come down from a bus based on their tribe in Sudan. Uptil now no action has been taken. They are supposed to make the firing, dismissal of those responsible for the atrocious unprofessional conduct a public spectacle, broadcast live on the news for all to see.

Yes you're right, but inducing labor is one of the last options any pregnant woman should seek for.

Why do you think its not right?
Are you aware of the reasons why we do inductions?
A woman may have heart or kidney issues and carrying a pregnancy further may kill her?
Also in a post date, the mother is not supplying adequate nutrition and thus the baby needs to come out, or else may not survive longer in the womb.
There are many other indications
