Abdul’Aziz Yari, former Zamfara State Governor and a Senator-elect, has vowed to go ahead with his Senate presidency bid.

Daily Trust reports that other contenders for the position, like Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi and Senator Ali Ndume (Borno) have withdrawn from the race and backed the party’s choice of former Akwa-Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio.


But Yari said Akpabio’s endorsement by President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu would, not stop him from the contest.

He spoke while meeting with the executives of the Tinubu/Shettima Network (TSN), headed by its National Chairman, Kailani Muhammad, in Abuja, on Saturday.

He said the contest for the Senate presidency will be based on constitutional provisions and not instructions by anyone.


He said, “What is going to happen that day, it is going to happen based on the instructions of the constitution and not for anyone.”


Yari said the Senate presidency contest was senators’ business, backed by the 1999 Constitution to choose their leaders within themselves and not based on instructions from anyone.

Correct talk. Not everyone is Buhari who is popular and iconic but a terrible politician. Rebels will always exists.

Some rebels are even mwre blackmailer seeking the best deal to make them drop their rebellion that is not ideological or principled

Tinubu will deal with all these challenges because he is best at placating and even getting rebels on his side.

Politics, for politicians, is about permanent permanent interest above everything else. Tinubu understands and works with this sacrosanct consideration better than any Nigerian politician alive today.

Yari's rebellion is no problem. Yorubas never blackmailed Tinubu and even gave him the latitude and support to make his free choices such as deploying Lawan as Senate President after the debacle of Saraki's first term in the position.

Tinubu even did on-the-ground work to get rid of Saraki and render him impotent so Buhari can have an 'ally' Senate President of his choice post Saraki.

Tinubu will therefore not capitulate to blackmail and subtle sabotage of his own Government from the North that Buhari never faced from the SW. It is all or nothing. It must be Akpabio.

Tinubu's style is about talking and amicable resolution of problem. If that fails then BAT is always ready to fight rather than ever flee.

That is what has made him the respected politician he is today. Yari will be placated and sorted . Those dreaming this would derail the APC are wasting their time.

Another example, showing how politically principled the Yorubas are when they give their word, is how not a single Yoruba APC leader contested against Buhari in the 2014 APC Primaries. Not one. Yet Okorocha and others did.

The Yorubas have more than paid their dues to APC and the North to gain the support to have an independent Presidency such as Buhari enjoyed for two terms bar the Saraki imboglio that was Buhari's own fault..

Never. Not under Tinubu's watch who happens to be the consummate Nigerian politician of vision and anticipation. Tinubu is aware of the Domino effect.

I.e. the danger of not seeing how events elsewhere can cause serious problems everywhere.

Tinubu is not Buhari not to understand the importance of an 'ally' Senate President to his own success as leader of the executive arm.
