They should build in protective circuits into their metres and spike the power voltage once in a while at random to destroy the gadgets of bypassers of their protected prepaid metres. They could program the metres to go off shortly before spike the voltage too. That will deter bypassers but can they reason out of the box?

Discos buy power and keep incurring losses all the time. If people could afford to pay for electricity, bypassing prepaid meters wouldn't be a lifestyle in this country.

In Lagos, for instance, EKEDC prioritizes areas where people can afford to pay for power over areas where people cannot and bypass their meters. That's why Lekki can boast of nearly 24-hour light every day but Sangotedo and Ajah cannot.

Lastly, before you come online to brazenly display how your parents terribly raised you kids, make sure you get your facts right.

Discos does not send electricity directly to homes, they send high voltage electricity via high tension wires to transformers. The transformers tone down the current and send it to homes. It is only when the current regulator in the transformer is damaged that high voltage electricity will go to homes. So Discos cannot decide to spike the electricity going to homes. If Discos decide to spike electricity, the only thing that will happen is the transformers will blow.
