Of course, the central transmission was off, someone wickedly put it on while he was working to fry him, about four weeks ago, someone did that to him (perhaps the same person who put it on this last time), but all he sustained was a severe shock, so I was told, I stay around the campus.

The central switch is always put off by the electrician and the fuse kept in his pocket whenever high tension job is carried out.

They do this to avoid being electrocuted from an overzealous staffs or an enemy attack.I doubt if this guy is a BEDC staff,he may be an ex worker

The guy that you responded to is right. My brother knew him and told me about his condition when he was rushed to the hospital, as well as what happened before he passed away.

Some of those people are devious... you can take outage and they'll give you go ahead only for someone else to contact them for supply and they'll switch it on forgetting there's someone working under high tension

In Nigeria they don't have the technical know-how to work on live cables if you are always watching national geographic you will great fixers, those guys can fix high tension wire without necessarily switching of the line. Africa na gidigbo any way is a way

how u take know

This is the issue, just one person can be in the control room, they refuse to employ many engineers. At Least 4 engineers should be in the control room monitoring that it's not switch on. They're dying like that due to drunkard people at the control room. A son, a father, an husband has just been wasted by a careless colleague.

was this a coordinated repair or a repair for someone that will pay you unofficially.

did he do safety grounding before repairs

I don't see any high tension insulation gloves

is that ladder a fiber made or other insulated type of ladder.


when ever you have to climb to the top of a ladder's rung(steps of a ladder), In safety classes they teach you that apart from ladder foot stability, the top three rungs are the most unsafe times on a ladder. And if you have to stretch to perform a task, when you are on the top of the top three rungs of a ladder, that is a very unsafe time, if you must do it, try to have a helper/person to look out for you and do ladder watching, someone to hold it in place. if you must climb to the top of the ladder, make sure that they are no obstructions around you and the ladder.


if this was not caused by a wide spread connection arcing, or an electrical short arcing, and lack of coordination with the main office for isolation purposes, then I think it was a safety issue. His ladder probably moved or he touched something which led to a chain reaction of accidents. he touch wire - the wire move him around to touch another wire, and his heart just fried in seconds to minutes.


After looking at the picture a little bit more, it seems like it was an arc blast, that busted his chest and his hand probably swayed toward the blast, maybe to a wire again or towards the blast.


Coordinate with coworkers, isolate the target work pole, ground the system, and preferably use an insulated bucket truck lift. Or use a safe and secure ladder, while following safety procedures.

High tension can belt plier and clove put together.you only carry-out repairs when it's shot down.

In HSE, the safe method for this kind of work is the LOTO- Lock Out Tag Out where power is isolated from the unit that a technician is penned to work by the technician himself and the switchboard is further locked to avoid unauthorized operation.

No one else can unlock the isolated unit except the tech who locked it.

These Discos need to up their training and retraining program.

My candid advice for any electrician working on an high tension is this, even if you are told its switch off from the control room, still protect urself.
Before you start,first bridge the lines to be at a safer side.anybody that want to kill you, will kill him self first.
