RIP bro

These things are avoidable if these electricity companies employ skilled electricians, train them well and also provide necessary equipments for their safety. These kind of accidents are everywhere in Nigeria now.
The supply was restored when he was still working which should not have happened if permission for power outage was granted. There is nothing like trained where high tension cables are, no gadgets can help when there is supply. Again it may be a mistake from the DSO whose work is to make sure the feeder is out until the repair is completed.

And the sad news is that these guys that do this risky work are paid peanuts, very poor some 35k to 50k while the ogas at the office earns huge for doing nothing, know some of them doing the job

So what are you saying?? Will a well trained DSO restore light if there was a permission for repairs?? And also will a trained electric worker carry out repairs without asking the DSO to cut power supply?? This is carelessness on both ends

This someone that delibrately switched it back on, doesn't he have a name or address ?
don't they give them safety training? When you power off, every Breaker has a hole which you can attach a key and lock so no one can turn it on...

This thing simple, perform lock out and keep the key with you till you finish, then open it ursef too

In Nigeria they don't have the technical know-how to work on live cables if you are always watching national geographic you will great fixers, those guys can fix high tension wire without necessarily switching of the line. Africa na gidigbo any way is a way
Yeah, but they use electrical isolated platforms, You can't use ordinary ladder that has a pathway to earth...And any mistake of touching two wires at once na death oo..They do die too, That's why they are one of the highest paid Technical body in US

for here it's better they turn off...we're kuku used to it

Some of those people are devious... you can take outage and they'll give you go ahead only for someone else to contact them for supply and they'll switch it on forgetting there's someone working under high tension
Mama, are you an engineer shocked

Boom! You are right. Those great fixers have a way of diverting the current away

You don't work on 33kv with any protective gears.

Just switch of power supply, that's all.

No protective gear can save anyone on a live high tension cable.
This is false. There are protective wears and equipment for every voltage level. There are even protective wears and equipment for working on live circuits.

Do you know what 33kv is?

Or for your understanding,

Do you know what 33,000 v is.

Note, what you use at home is 240 v.

At 33kv, you don't need to touch it, just a meter away from it, the electric field is enough to completely roast a human being.

Google is your friend.

I am in close to where it happened, he is infact 1 of the best technical staff of BEDC, infact we can't explain, because the light was turned off wen he went up.

The investigation that's ongoing is to know who turned the light back on.

Nigerians with their reckless behavior

“Grace cover me” gang

That’s how some monkeys nearly fell off the top of a tractor they use to pull oxygen cylinders in a government hospital i work without wearing helmets. How will you be on a tractor without a cubicle to protect you incase the vehicle bumps into something and not wear a helmet?

Always trying to prove they are too special

Like what the other man said, there is actually protective equipment/wears for every voltage level/power ratio. It is not about Google is your friend.

Apart from the regular 0.415kv lines, there is protective equipment even for 11kv, 33kv lines in Nigeria, I can authoritatively confirm.
Though, Feeders are shut down over here during repairs

You know Frank personally?
I knew him in Etete, he was a close neighbour.
A very hardworking and church dude who was upright in character and mannerism, he has done some electrical jobs for my dad and his death was such an avoidable one.
May his soul rest in peace.

It's All these backdoor light repair

Had he gone thru the official outage process, no one will switch on. In industries, there's something called LOTO. You switch off and lock it off. No one can "mistakenly" switch on coz it's locked and the guy who obtained the outage must come back himself to put it back on
But I guess it's illegal reconnection these guys are doing

I worked briefly with TCN so I can tell you it's different here.

But this is avoidable with upgrades,so that Once someone obtains permission to work on a line and it's de-energized there can be digital lock code that only the person that de-energized should have and a direct communication channel with the team lead onsite.

Triple confirmation before switching off even after receiving permit,.3ple confirmation before switching on which should include official email from the team lead or his boss.

Also the guys in control room work on shifts ,if there is no proper handover, signage etc the next person will simply assume the switch off is just for load shedding and will turn it on to supply the area

I suspect murder. I believe somebody held the ladder for him. Such repairs are often logged for a switch off. He may not be too foolish to engage in a repair without the assurance of no power. The question is who switched it on? BEDC staff were in angry protest over this issue. I believe somebody in the system wants him dead. The man that held the ladder for him would have been the first to notice the accident but in this report it was not.

I have worked in the power sector for 4 years + across 2 distribution companies.

Ask yourself how do electricity companies abroad carry out maintenance without the power going out. Or are you saying they don't carry out maintenance over there?

Speak of only what you know, Google and YouTube is your friend.
