After the Indian chef broke the record, how many Indians quickly sprang up to take the glory from her? She held that record for 4 solid years before Hilda broke it. Hilda broke hers and in less than 48 hours, all manner of human beings started springing up from remote African countries saying that they have decided to bid for the record. Why not allow the poor girl enjoy the fruits of her hard work before trying to take away her shine? Guiness World Records should have a policy that record breakers must enjoy their feat for at least two years before any other person that breaks same record after them is recognized. Create your own niche? How? Someone already did it before Hilda. How is it a new niche because Hilda did it? Why is it a sin for another person to do it after her? I admire her tenacity, strength and business acumen. Aside from that, it’s just cooking that Iya Basira has been doing for 30 years since when she was 14 years old. She wakes up by 3am to start cooking in a more local and tedious kitchen. She cooks and serves to people till around 10pm with all the insults and little profit. She barely has up to 3 hours to sleep, then she wakes up by 3am again with the same routine. Be aware that we have thousands if not millions of Iya Basira across Nigeria. But Nigerians instead of looking for someone who has the potential to invent something that will assist our daily living, we ignored it and started holding concerts for who is cooking rice and making eba. Haba! Other people saw it as an easy way to cash out. What is required? Just be energetic, stand and cook for over 100hrs and boom! Governors and presidents will come and eat your rice. Endorsements and flight tickets to holiday destinations across the world. Now tell me why most people won’t try to break the record? It’s just an “easy” and a not too brain cracking competition. If it was an invention in aero dynamics, engineering or medicine, Nigerians go give chance asap! And why didn’t Indians and Europeans try to break their sister’s record? Because it’s irrelevant to the general public. Such records only benefit just the per takers. Nothing more! Very stupid, wrong-headed reasoning by Kanayo. Vying for a place in the Guinness book of records is not about being ‘considerate’ or ‘nice’ to the record holder. It is about smashing their record. No room for sentiments. If another African can cook for longer, THAT PERSON should be the record holder. It’s called meritocracy. Kanayo should drop that IPOB /Obidient mentality of hating opposition and personal freedom. Same way they were abusing people who favoured any candidate other than Obi. This intolerance must stop. It will get you nowhere, and makes you look really stupid and backward. If say a South African had broken that cooking record, and then Kanayo heard a week later that his Igbo sister was preparing to challenge the new record, would he tell her to stop and let the South African “enjoy her victory for a while”? Pray2God: African leaders are dull, Africans are energetic creative and intelligent but the leaders refused to create an enabling environment for them to strive. So fvcking discouraging.
