There is so much hate and intolerance among Nigerians. It has worsened in recent times, especially with the last election where some people were attacked, killed and their businesses set ablaze because they wanted to vote for a particular candidate. This didn't happen in some remote locations but a cosmopolitan area like Lagos.

Beer and alcoholic beverages are daily destroyed in the North because the Muslims there consider it offensive to their religion. However, it is acceptable in the South. A Christian woman was brutally murdered in Abuja because she was preaching about Christ and Muslims were pissed off. Another Yoruba Christian was lynched to death in Gombe because her Muslim students erroneously accused her of abusing the koran. A Christian girl called Deborah was stoned to near death and then burnt alive because she called on Jesus in her school WhatsApp group and the Muslims got angry.

Many Christians are also getting massacred in the middle belt by fulani Muslim terrorists.

Now, the question that keep bothering my mind is this, if we all can't stand each other, then what's the basis for sharing a country? Life is too short for us to be living like animals in a jungle. Hating on each other and wishing one another harm every day. Why don't we sit on a round table as normal humans and discuss how to go our separate ways? When Malaysians discovered they can't live together with the Singaporeans, they parted ways peacefully. Today, both nations are doing perfectly fine. East Timor also got separated from Indonesia.

Other countries that have broken up due to irreconcilable differences include USSR, India, Pakistan, Yugoslavia, Bosnia, Sudan, Ethiopia etc.

When the British came to Nigeria, they quickly assembled people of diverse backgrounds together so it would be easier for them to exploit our resources. They never consulted the indigenous people. In fact, they actually used violence to subdue them. So, isn't it more sensible for us to see that we aren't compartible and therefore go our separate ways?

If Nigeria is broken into 3 countries, the three will still be the biggest in West Africa. If we are broken into 6 states or more, we will still relatively big. So, what are we afraid of?

One good thing about Europeans and Asians is that they are smart, bold and advanced enough to redraw their boundaries whenever the need arises. Why are Africans or to be precise, Nigerians different?

Obviously, we can't continue like this, hating each other, pulling each other down and wishing them harm.

Life is short generally and even much shorter in the hobbessian state we have created for ourselves. Why don't we go our separate ways peacefully so we can enjoy our stay here on Earth before we eventually die?

We don't spit up because you're ALL TALK AND NO ACTION.

Igbos are a good example.

Always crying about how Nigeria hates them. Yet according to Ohaneze, nothing less than 11 MILLION IGBOS live in the north today.

Similar number in the West.

If Nigerians hate each other, how is that possible?

Why has the so called 'hatred' for Igbos not led to them being driven out from those regions by the natives?

Why haven't the Igbos themselves returned back to their region since Nigeria 'hates them' and vice versa?

The truth is Nigerians generally don't hate each other.

It is politicians and non-state actors like IPOB and Boko Haram who provoke these passions when it suits them, for their own selfish purposes.

In public the politicians create enmity among you based on silly differences like ethnicity and religion.

To them, stirring your passions for their benefit is just a game.

Like Ludo.

Or football.

On the pitch (ie in public), they're 'sworn enemies'.

After the game, they all go somewhere and drink.

Behind the scenes, they drink and celebrate birthdays, weddings, and attend expensive parties in London and Dubai together, and even laugh at you in cosy conversations over wine, for being so stupid as to fall for their divisive tactics.

Know this and have sense.

Lol, out of that hate I'm talking about, you have reduced it to Igbo issues alone. I gave you instances affecting virtually many regions but you ignored them and focused on Igbos.

Is Deborah Igbo? What the Yoruba Christian woman who was murdered in Abuja and the one lynched in Gombe? What about millions of naira worth of beer and alcoholic beverages being destroyed in the North because Muslims there consider it Haram in their religion?

What about middle belt indigenous people being massacred everyday?

Let's tell ourselves the truth, it goes beyond Igbos and if Nigerians are smart people, we should be discussing how to separate this country peacefully. If a married couple who are enlightened realize they're incompatible, the wise thing they do is to divorce. Same applies to sensible countries.

We can't continue living like animals in Nigeria.

@Rostikol, even if there are 20 million Igbos in the North or West respectively. Or 5 million Hausas in the East. It shouldn't be an impediment.

Even till today, there are millions of Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Latvians etc in each other's countries despite breaking up from USSR. There were millions of South Sudanese in the North when Sudan broke up but most of them returned to Sudan Sudan after independence. Nigeria won't be any different.

Britain is a useless meddlesome interloper living on past glory. If Nigerians decide among ourselves to dismember this fake union, there is absolutely nothing they can do.

The answer to your question can be summarized into one word: OIL!!!

A more detailed answer; Nigeria being a British creation coincidentally possesses diverse economic resources.
However, she has consistently been ruled by largely tribal serfs who designed the nation as a unitary state.
So what this implies is that whoever sits atop this veritable MMM has access to stupendous wealth such as he'll never have been able to access as a tribal ruler.

Nigeria's problem is one thing only Patriotism, or the lack of it.
We did not learn how to be Nigerians before we became Nigerians.

The Brits were not interested in grooming us to be patriotic;

The Early political leaders were not interested in following an example of patriotism;
The religious leaders are least interested in raising patriotic followers. Their only interest is in their religion and how to make the most of it.

The average person is trying to get what he can from the system to cater for himself, his family, his kinsmen and his tribe.

There you have it.

Oil was discovered as far back as 1985 or thereabouts in the Chad basin.

If you stop to wonder why it was kept under wraps till now you'll begin to understand what I am saying.

The union of Nigeria is pointless and has only led to much death and destruction. Why are we together? Because the British brought us together? Is that a valid reason to be in the same country together?

No it is not.

You build a union based on equity, justice, fairness and common purpose. You dont build a country based on Lugard coming from Europe to say you are a "Nigerian"

Nigeria have never managed to grow into a nation since 1914 it was created, and it never will, we are just too different. This union is a waste of time

Whatvwe should do is hold a referendum to determine who and who wants to be Nigerian, and who wants independence

How do we discuss amicably and reach a consensus towards going our separate ways?

I have really thought deeply about Nigeria and came to the realization that what keeps us apart is greater than what binds us together. We are better off as independent neighbors than being together with such crazy antagonism for one another.

My brother, for you to be saying this, two things are involved. It's either you're part of the 1% politicians milking Nigeria dry at the expense of 99% or you don't even understand/care about the suffering of Nigerian masses.

Don't get it twisted, virtually every part of Nigeria will do much better as independent states. They will all leverage economies of scale and pursue what is best suited for them without being sabotaged by others.
