Those talking about Obasanjo and Shonekan do not really understand the Yoruba progressive philosophy.

Started with the likes of Awolowo and his cohorts and even when they disagree on politics, the progressive ideology will always still be there cos it is firmly rooted in South Western politics.

Then we had Abiola who though funded NPN a non-progressive party against more progressive UPN, later aligned with a lot of progressive Nigerians of UPN stock together into SDP with a manifesto that is more of an offshoot of the UPN/Awo manifesto...

Then you have Tinubu, a product of same stock, which continues into the southwestern AD in 1999. The AD had an offshoot of the Awolowo/UPN manifesto but a bit watered down in line with the realities of that time...Then Tinubu continued carrying the flag, survived OBJ's onslaught in 2003, formed AC, morphed into ACN, still carrying the progressive mindset as witnessed in the developments in Lagos and then formed an alliance of convenience with Buhari to form APC (The much needed northern alliance that was the missing link for Awolowo in his days....and the same northern alliance that didn't work for Abiola) and now he is President...voted and vetted by his own people...4 states out of six and projected properly to national limelight as a southwesterner....As said in his word..."Yoruba lokan and in yoruba land he said it was his own turn"

Compare that with Obasanjo who first came in thru a coup and death of his principal and came a second time without even winning his ward in yorubaland....but brought into limelight by every other tribe apart from his own....he definitely wasn't carrying the progressive mandate....even though they all copy and adapt some part of the UPN manifesto I to their government.

Then Shonekan....who was just a military appointee.

Do your research...I moved to Ibadan recently, and the works of Awolowo is still very evident here since the 50s, in the educational sector. Tinubu built massive Government secondary schools all over Lagos...from Bariga, to Ogba, to Egbeda area...those schools still stand till this day. Go and do your research.

What are the works of Awolowo done in the 50s that are still evident in Ibadan?

What are the "massive Government secondary schools all over Lagos"?

How does that mean"prioritizing" education?

When you say "those schools still stand till this day", is it like they were supposed to have fallen or crashed or is Tinubu the first governor to build facilities in Lagos that are still in use till today?

Where does Abiola fit into all this?

I don't know much about Awo, so I won't write much about him. All I know is that he gave free education to the SW and lost his presidential ambition to shagari.

As for MKO, IBB had no plans of relinquishing power to a Southerner that's why he canceled the June 12 election. MKO's biggest error was ordering Gen Abacha to step down and calling his government an illegal one. If he had just waited patiently and not confront the military, who knows, Gen Abdusalam might have handed over to him in 1999 and not Obasanjo.

Tinubu reminds me of one proverb that used to reign during my university days when I newly gained admission. They'll say... "Person way de read na him serious, person way pass na him know book" this proverb as I came to understand was meant for those who were ready to do whatever it takes to pass their courses, copying, impersonation, sorting...etc. So when the results are out and you see one unserious student clearing all his courses, don't be surprised.

Tinubu is like an average Nigerian student who was ready to do whatever it takes to pass his courses. He won this election because he understood exactly how Nigerian politics is played, and got down into the mud to wrestle with his opponents.

I didn't vote for him, but whether I like it or not, he's going to be my president for the next 4 years. So I wish him all the best and pray that he makes Nigerians have cause to smile.

God blessed you my broda
