Cyber security have so many branches but I will give job description about two branches I love and I have also worked in for a long time. The two branches are (i)Bug bounty hunting, (ii)Cyber threat intelligence.

This is the area of cyber security in which you work from anywhere in the world, and your job is to find how a computer, website, database, CCTV, iot etc, can be hacked or manipulated for fraud and you are paid immediately or in a few days, in this job the more bugs/vulnerabilities you submit the more your pay, the least bug/vulnerability is priced at $200. Your employment is 100 percent guaranteed.

CYBER THREAT INTELLIGENCE
In this area your job is to get intelligence on cyber criminals for the purpose of knowing there tools and attack methods. This is a very good career path, you can be an expert witness in a case, or you can be hired by an organization to investigate a cyber attack.

That's not true, only your skills are needed, reason is because cyber criminals don't need certificates to attack or defraud you. check my signature for more details.

Google the name Marcus Hutchins. This is a guru in cyber security without any form of certificate or degree, he is notable for stopping the global ransomware called WannaCry. And it will shock you to know that WannaCry was coded by Ramon Abbas aka Hushpuppi, always research before you comment. Finally I want you to know that the IBM X-force team are hackers without certificate or degree in computer science.

You are right.

There is no shortcut to success especially in a highly professional field. If you don't have a degree then you better stack up on certifications and be ready to defend whatever skills you have on your resume/CV if you manage to get interviews. The real deal starts when you eventually get the job. Cybersecurity roles are not for the half-baked, not even the more mechanical & less technical ones like vulnerability analyst, compliance officer/analyst, or end user training officer etc. If you are in core blue, purple or red team (malware coders, engineers, pentesters etc) in your organization then you better be well prepared as millions of dollars investment is at stake. However, it's okay to initially target small organizations to gain valuable experience but getting in is still a competition with hundreds of thousands of other Cybersecurity wannabes.

I was just trying to inform the one that asked if he could get a Cybersecurity 'expert' role without a degree. I responded based on my experience discussing with my supervisors (CCIEs) at work.

A lot of these IT stuffs can be learnt online. Even during my university days, bulk of my projects were as a result of knowledge from Indian guys on YouTube. It doesn't have to be a computer science degree, just have a degree (though STEM degree is cute) then you can transition. Organizations are more comfortable when you have a degree than no degree.

'Expertise' comes with relevant 'experience'. Security is a very critical issue that can ruin a company in a blink. I doubt if any established firm can entrust their network to a rookie, only if it's an internship which requires a degree!

I’ll be glad to assist we’re possible. However, like I stated you do need some fundamental skills / knowledge to guide your path to being either an offensive or defensive cyber specialist.

A good starting point is learning networking fundamentals (OSI layers) and basic software development skills. It’s a vast field ..certifications like ComPTIA A+, N+ and S+ can help. On the application side you can start with basic software testing certs like ISTQB.

I have friends here in the United Kingdom who are struggling to get an entry-level job in cybersecurity even after having a master’s degree in cybersecurity. Just like some people have said, it’s very difficult to see an entry-level job in cybersecurity because most of these multinational companies need someone with experience. I will advise one to start with data analysis or data science which has more direct entry jobs, unlike cybersecurity.

The UK govt is funding a 14-week cyber security program open for people without a degree. After a job await the people that complete the course. It's shocking even a master's holder is struggling to get a job.

Since you have started before, you can easily revisit the skills. You can get Junior roles depending on your proficiency in these skills.

The Market for web is kinda tight out there, so you need to do more than bare minimum to get your foot in the door.

For graphic design, you can add animation/motion graphics skills, just that this requires huge computational resources. But it's a marketable skill.

Overall, Your skills are entry level friendly but the bar is getting higher by the day and you need to do more than what everyone is doing to beat competition. Good luck bro

Go get your random knowledge, Join bug hunter, find and submit bugs to get bucks.
Its Nigerian mentality to always wait to be hired. We're so wired differently.
4, 5 or 6 years degree is always and mainly to secure job with this or that organisation.
Tech/IT is different. After mastering any tech skill there is always a place on World Wide Web to earn little while enriching your CV and sharpening your skills too.

I have been into IT for the past 8 years and i ventured into Information security about 1 year ago. I would advised for anybody that wants to go into cybersecurity should have basic knowledge in some IT fields such as IT support, System Administrator, Network Administrator etc. In addition to this, The person should get more certifications like comptia security, Cisco security, CEH, CC Microsoft SOC etc. You can build yourself from there. Cybersecurity is very wide. You will need atleast 2 years for you to become big boy and you must be very to invest in certifications and hands on training.

Where do i start. To be a DevOps Engineer, you need the SDLC and agile development knowledge as well as system administration knowledge.

Coming from a software development background, i assume you know it enough to handle version control tools like git, and you should have agile scrum experience as a developer. Then all that's needed is master Linux system administration, which in itself is not the hardest of things, then learn the DevOps tools, Jenkins, Ansible, docker, Kubernetes, among others, but my point is, your software development knowledge is the perfect foundation to pivot to DevOps engineering.
