They're trying to match the additional force strength of Russia's mobilised troops, thereby forcing Russia into a second mobilisation.

NATO wanted Russia to attack Ukraine with mobilized troops after the winter, take casualties and then fresh NATO trained Ukrainian troops were supposed to take advantage against demoralized and exhausted Russian army.

Some Ukrainian patriots and bloggers begin to ask questions why Russians didn't run when they saw NATO Leopards and Bradleys.

This is day 13 of the counteroffensive, some were convinced by Ukrainian propaganda that Russians would be running from Sevastopol base at this point.

Did Zelensky really believe Russians would just run away when they see German tanks, ignored all the minefields and Russian fortifications?

If the plan was betting everything on Russians just running away and overrunning their positions easily this counteroffensive will be ugly.

There were several articles in US media that claimed first 24 hours would be deciding, the goal was to cause panic and force Russians to run away, giant gains were expected. We're almost 2 full weeks into it and Ukraine captured a few villages with no population.

The EU demands #Russia return 400 'stolen' planes. But the #EuropeanUnion holds billions in #Russian assets which it says it is 'investing' to help pay for weapons provided to #Ukraine. These issues can only be resolved through a mutual agreement.

I think one of the biggest surprises from the Ukrainian counteroffensive thus far has been how aggressively Russia has contested the gray zone - they laid minefields well forward of their main fortifications, and have consistently counterattacked.

This probably accounts somewhat for Ukraine losing many vehicles still in their approach columns. Clearly the AFU did not expect the screening line to fight so hard. To be fair, I didn't either. Thus, all the fighting is taking place miles north of where we expected it.
