Let us Look at the Production Cost Production Cost of 1,000 Broilers* Average live Body Weight Target should be = 2.1kg. Dressed Weight (After Processing). = 1.5kg. Selling To Fast Food Restaurant at #1,850 per KG. Day-Old Chick Price Per Bird #500 (Not Current Price). Price of a Bag of Feed (Broiler Starter or Finisher) + Delivery to farm =N9500 per bag Brooding Expenses + Vaccination & Drugs #50,000 Farm Atendant Salary for 6 weeks + Fuel = #100,000 *NEXT :Let us Calculate the total cost of Feeding 1,000 Broilers to 6 Weeks* Broiler chicken will eat a total of 4kg of feed to give you average bodyweight of 2.1kg at 6 weeks if the feed is a quality feed therefore; 4kg x 1000 birds = 4000KG A bag of feed is 25kg. Let us divide 4000KG by 25kg to know the total number of bags to buy & feed 1000birds I.e. 4000/25 = 160 Therefore, you need 160 bags of Feeds to feed 1000bird Feeding cost for 6 weeks =160 bags X #9500 =N1,520,000 (cost to feed 1000birds for 6weeks). That is the amount you need to feed them to 6 weeks to achieve an average bodyweight of 2kg per bird. NOW SEE TOTAL COST OF PRODUCTION FOR 1,000 BROILERS Broiler Day-Old Chick: 1000 X #500 =#500,000 Feeding Cost: 1,520,000 for total 6weeks Brooding cost + Vaccination & Drugs = #50,000 Farm Atendant Salary for 6 weeks + Fuel =#100,000 Cool Room & Processing cost: #100,000. Total PRODUCTION COST 500,000+ 1,520,000+50,000+ 100,00+100,000 =#2,220,000 Total Pro. cost =#2,270,000 At 6 weeks, The flock will have 2kg live bodyweight The Average Processed weight will be 1.4kg (the weight left after removing the feather, head, neck, legs, intestine) MORTALITY RATE : 3% mortality rate, I.e. 30 birds will die out of 1000 birds to now give you 970birds remaining. NOW PROFITS & the return on Investment at 6 weeks If Selling price per kg is #1,850 1 chicken will be 1.4 X 1850 Per chicken selling price =#2,590 Therefore; 970 X 2,590 =#2,512,300 Net Profit = Total Sale - Total Expenses #2,270,000-#2,512,300 PROFIT =#242,300 after 6 weeks.
