These criminals in power are not serious. I already predicted this outcome way back https://www.nairaland.com/7733529/households-under-pressure-new-electricity#123891198 Naira has been devalued (though they call it floating). The FG has handed over the exchange to the market forces where speculators and banks are king. Naira continues to fall in the I/E and parallel market. Anybody who tells you Naira will appreciate is a joker, for a corrupt country like ours, the banks and speculators are the new cabal and will drive the rates how they deem fit. Don’t believe…. Just observe. What most don’t get now is that CBN now has no obligation to provide FX at a particular rate to the market, as such the new FG players can access FX from CBN without noise. 2 Likes |

mrvitalis: I dont agree with the intervention by the FG as well. They should allow the market forces to play out. FG should stop depleting our foreign reserves. This act alone will make foreign investors to doubt the intention of the FG. 1 Like |

dre11: So does government want to go and purchase dollar from US and subsidize it in Nigeria? I repeat, the only way to make naira gain is to increase export than import. Less dependency is on the dollar, the naira gains and the only way is to increase production which should be in naira. Patronise more made in nigeria goods. Ensure electricity stability, license more local refineries for local consumption. When there is less dependency on foreign exchange, the local currencies gains cos there will be value. It can be simple if the government wants it if they consider SMSEs.... 3 Likes |

CodeTemplar:The Naira will only stabilize when it finds its equilibrium value. Right now , we can only speculate as to what that value will be, but it would definitely be much lower than it is right now. My own bet is between N1200 to N1500 range. When it reaches that point in the short term, then success of economic stabilization policies of the government would determine whether the Naira strengthens to N1100 to N1250 or further free falls to the bottom. 2 Likes |
