Brief History Of King Ejike Of Bille (provided by ECBLOG)



King Ejike of Bille, by name Agbani Ejike, is revered as one of the most feared kings in the history of Bille and Kalabari. The king was a frequent raider who sacked neighbouring communities in dispute with Bille. The king raided and fought against neighboring tribes like the Kalabari, Ogoni, Okrika etc

Besides the king who is Igbo, several communities in Bille are also of Igbo descent, However, there are some Ijaw natives in Bille also. A few Igbo communities of Bille discovered during the linguist‘s research include:

Dikama
Madụ-kiri
Oruama-kiri etc.

The meanings of the above town names are as follows ECBLOG):

(Oruama’s abode)

Jikeama (Ejike ama; Ejike’s town. Ejike is regarded as a father figure in Bille history).

The research work also revealed that due to some social factors, the original name of King Ejike of Bille which is Agbani Ejike has been re-invented into Agbaniye-Jike, an Ijaw derivation. In some cases the famous king is remembered as just King Jike.
