1)Russia is a democratic state make laugh so hard that it can wake up the dead and deaf will hear. Russia is a one state ( Quasi socialist- quasi capitalist). In other words Mega Putin party and negligible opposite.

2) Leaders in Saudi Kuwait etc are ruling via Monarchical Govt and dictatorship combine with suppression either through religious philosophy or violent force . If you have access to their people,they will tell you that if opportunity present itself they will prefer to be rule under democracy. ( Remember, democracy does not bring economic happiness on the long run; u may have freedom but not able to achieve your full economic potential). As with Libya example, the people have everything on a platter but still feel empty due to lack of freedom. ( This still pose the irony of man : Rich but said; poor but happy). No Man loves to live under dictatorship if options of freedom are presented and that captured the mood in Russia when a potential coup is about to take place.

I'd kike to add that democracy doesn't guarantee "freedom" as you said. Many so called democracies are worse than what existed in Libya and Iraq.
