I have seen or read a lot of articles suggesting southeast will be landlocked if their secede from Nigeria as independent nigeria states, but that's a fallacy taken too far, southeast might not have an occupied area that share boundary with the sea as seen in some niger delta communities or towns but southeast have several inland river water big enough to accommodate any types of cargo ships that linked directly to sea and not to any niger delta river, lake or estuaries. |

Is the map lying? If rivers passing through SE flows to the ocean, does that mean Mali Niger, and Burkinafaso are also not landlocked? |

rosebowl01:We talking about distance here . We all know how distant those places are to the ocean compared to SE. Do you know that most of the link rivers are saline waters not fresh? |

Lol.... Geopolitically, Landlock refers to countries or independent entities... Southeast is part of country, so nothing like it being landlocked... And by definition, Landlock are countries whose borders does not have direct access to ocean.... But if it were to be a country, then it is Landlock, coz it doesn't have access to the ocean .... Only South West, and South South are the two geopolitical zones with access to ocean (Atlantic Ocean in this case)... |

JustYourself:You want to redefine landlocked . In that case Niger and Kogi State is not landlocked since the River Niger , which eventually drains into the Atlantic criss-crosses it. |

AuschwitzPrefec:is the waterway to those side saline or fresh . If fresh no if not then it's not landlocked . We are talking about distance here |

BeninRefugees:You have no direct access to the ocean. Even if it is one metre distance. You think the river that flows from your end does not also have boundaries ? Waterway boundaries exist for a reason and there is a point on that river flow where it no longer belongs to your Ibo land. |

BeninRefugees:You are a big mumu The Nile River passes through Ethiopia (a land locked country) through Sudan and all the way to Egypt's Nile Delta were it flows into the Mediterranean. At every point it flows through international borders , it's boundaries are strictly recognised and enforced https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_international_river_borders |

Biafra is never a land locked country Biafra has access to 2 major rivers that flow into the ocean Some of us kept this information away from the public eyes so that the demand for Biafra will not go out of hand by some igbo youth, but infact south east is not landlocked, there are secret plans to crowd fund 2 ports in Onitsha and Ukwa to build the maritime economy of the east

BeninRefugees:Same Crowther that brought Christianity and education to your cursed region is whom you insult? Same Crowther that translated the Bible to Ibo and even was the first to document Ibo culture to the world long before your useless Achebe and that woke Chiamanda were ever born ? You see,you Ibos have a way of hating on those who helped you and friending those who enslaved your ass. You are cursed. |

kettykin:Your boundary stop the moment that river flows into any Niger Delta state. If you insist on that rubbish , then the entire Onistha belongs to Futa Jalon as that's where the river Niger originates from. |

BeninRefugees:SE is landlocked. Don't try to defend what is not. Except if the communities in Rivers state choose to join the so called Biafra, which I doubt. Let's not change the narrative unnecessarily. Before you turn it to a personal attack, I have been to every state in the south east and currently reside and work in the Niger delta. Shalom |

AuschwitzPrefec:Futajalon according to united nations have as much access to the Atlantic ocean sea via river Niger if they choose to. There are international laws governing access to the sea via ocean and rivers . Nigeria's coastal boundaries is just 200m from the coast, but rivers that criss-cross nations are owned equally by the nations . The problem with future Jason towing that option is cost of transportation of goods and people from the Atlantic and nothing more. Go and read about the river Nile and it s ownership. I will help you with united nations laws on access to the sea if tike permits |
