Subsidy Removal & How President Select Is Destroying Nigeria by SOSinNigeria: 11:58am On Jul 14, 2023
Nigerians are currently facing a monster. This man called Tinubu removed subsidy without first ensuring that certain basic things are put in place. The Nigerian economy is largely informal and directly hinged on fuel. Transportation, SME's, homes, white & blue collar workers, farmers and every sector of our economy relied heavily on fuel. By removing fuel subsidy, Tinubu pulled the plug and our economy went crashing!

Firstly, they used propaganda to demonize subsidy as if it was the most terrible thing no country should tolerate. Unfortunately, Nigerians became brainwashed into accepting that subsidy was bad. US, Canada, China, India etc all subsidize certain critical sectors of their economy to ensure optimal production and protection of citizens.

If this demonic government has even an ounce of conscience, they won't behave this way. They claimed that other African countries are enjoying our subsidy and for that reason, Nigerians should suffer.

This is what Tinubu should have done, if he isn't such a heartless man;

1. Supply subsidized fuel to only NNPC stations. The number of NNPC stations in Nigeria are known & can be easily regulated. These stations must not sell more than 10 litres volume to customers whether you're buying with gallons or cars.

2. Allow independent marketers to import and sell at market prices.

3. Create other alternatives such as gas and make them readily available nationwide.

4. Urgently fix our refineries.

5. Legalize and regulize independent oil refining in the Niger Delta. Ensure they meet safety standards.

Nigeria won't be in this terrible condition it is now, if Tinubu had acted responsibly. Make no mistake about it, Nigerians are suffering and dying everyday with no hope.

Dangote refinery they're waiting to start operation, is far from ready. Industries and Businesses, both big and small are closing down in large numbers due to either high operational cost or low patronage. Unemployment has spiked to unprecedented levels. Inflation has continued to worsen with each passing day. As naira continues to slide, even the already expensive fuel will continue to skyrocket. What will happen to Nigerians when fuel price eventually hits 900 per liter?

Other developing countries like India, China, Egypt, Brazil and Indonesia etc are celebrating how they're getting millions out of poverty. But in Nigeria, this government doesn't see anything wrong in sending millions into crushing poverty. We were already the poverty capital of the world before subsidy was removed. Then imagine what our situation will be now.

Nigerians remaining quiet in the face of all these is even more tragic. The promise of 8,000 monthly pay to 12 million poor households is adding salt to injury. How would they even identify the poor when they hardly use bank account? People that are in remote villages? To think that the same extremely corrupt politicians will be tasked to share this money makes it even more ridiculous.

Nigerians should know that their existence is under threat. If you're still eating 3 square meals, just know it will soon become 1 square meal. If you're eating 1 square meal daily before, just know that you're about to face famine.
