[b]Residents of Yewa South Local Government area of Ogun State on wednesday protested against the killing of a native of the town,Mr Morufu Soni by men of the Nigeria Customs Service. According to eye witnesses,Soni was driving a Mazda 626 car with registration number plate LAGOS 356 SMK through a checkpoint at Ajilete set up by the customs men,when he was shot by them. A resident of the town who declined to give his name said,"We were surprised at the killing of this innocent man.It was so painful because the car he was driving was even registered." An irate mob threatened to take the body of the late Soni known in the town as Yaro to the palace of the Alale of Ajilete,Oba Dauda Akinlade,but were prevailed upon by some elders of the town. The mob sacked the check point and set ablaze the sheds used by the customs men. However policemen intervened and took the body of the dead businessman to the Owode Yewa divisional headquaters. i think the news men should make proper investigation on issue befor painting the book words the late was carring some contrabands in his private car which makes not to stop for the customs men and even thretened the customs men with the car, nearly want to hit two of them and has the men ran for thier life unfurtunately their was an accidental discharge, so pls make further inv. |
