Not sure I get where you are coming from but babies have hemoglobin F. It is more difficult for carbon monoxide to displace oxygen from hemoglobin F unlike in hemoglobin A. This may explain why the baby survived this sordid incident.

Ur right, but am thinking about the chances of the baby being in stable condition on arrival at the hospital. Like the baby wasn't in any distress that necessitated any stabilisation....according to the physician

Did they tell you that they died from smoke inhalation?

They died from Carbon Monoxide poisoning and it's effect, have more to do with how much of it gets absorbed into the bloodstream,than how old you are..

The baby was able to survive because he or she still possess fetal haemoglobin, which has a very high affinity for oxygen.
