Tinubu was wrong then. Very wrong.

As for me, in 2012, I woke up, and realized that subsides were bad for our economy, thanks to GEJ, NOI and SLS. After years of parroting subsidy was good, I woke the ell up. And have stayed awoke since. I did not have to support PDP to relaize why GEJ wanted to remove subsides.

I have backed subsidy removal SINCE.

Take your comments elsewhere.If you want your subsidy back, go and campaign for it.

I support no party, I believe APC is useless self. Nigeria can and should do better. Maybe with YOU.

From my own opinion, it is only few people voted for APC & INEC Chairman manipulated the results and pronounced him the winner,so there is no way he whould have gotten to that seat with the vote of the common man.

The fact is, subsidy removal has never been popular in Nigeria, and the wily old tinubu and buhari decided to play politics and join the protest, and it paid off for them.....at the expense of Nigeria's economic stability.

Some people don't like democracy because na rule of mob. In 2012, the popular opinion was that subsidy should go. Meanwhile, subsidy costs had tripled in two years, and had we kept fuel at N65 per liter, by 2014, it would have eaten all our earnings...and we would have been in soup. Literally. That is what GEJ and co tried to tell us, but with large swathes of the country angry with PDP at the time...people attacked the messenger and forgot about the message.

Even keeping it at N97 ate our forex reserves...all because Nigerians want cheap fuel. And continued the depreciation of the refineries...which by 2011 were operating at one sixth of their capacity.



Well, Tinubu has been forced to remove subsidy. If he had backed GEJ in 2012, by now, he would be reaping the benefits.

Anyway, the subsidy had to go...thanks to our keeping it for 50 years, we are now at peak debt. Any more loans, and we may go over the edge economically.

The good economic decisions are not necessarily the popular ones. Subsidy removal is a good example. I mean, if Abacha, a whole Abahcha could not remove subsidy, na GEJ go remove am?




One annoying thing about the subsidy debate here is that the Ojota crowd who in 2012 were backing subsidy are now supporters of subsidy removal. Meanwhile the GEJ supporters crew, who were keeping quiet, or backing GEJ on subsidy removal...are now pro-subsidy.

That's why one can't have reasonable discussions about subsidy on nairaland. With all the anger and bitterness, and with all the rage and sorrow...

But sadly we have reached a point where the subsidy had to go. It was getting out of hand. And it was eating so much of our revenue. The warning signs were there in 2021, when governors were telling Buhari that there would be no money for nothing if subsidy was kept. Buhari responded with partial removals...which freed some money, but left the problem.

Now we are at peak debt. Anymore, and we could run out of money totally.
