Sabotage to increase price. It won't work.

Before total deregulation, the discos should be mandated to meter ALL consumers. In fact, estimated billing should be banned thenceforth. Also, power theft should be heavily sanctioned by imposing Long prison terms, no option of fine.

See the part where I mentioned universal metering.

Metering by the way is not a panacea. People sill bypass the meter. And fight disco officials who catch them doing so.

My former landlord once had to pay off debts on a meter in one of his rentals because the previous tenant bypassed the meter and then vamosed when his rent expired

Tinubu hasn't made any policy pronouncement regarding power generation since he was sworn in

It's seems power generation is not part of his #RenewedHopeShege agenda

You are not in Nigeria! That was the first policy he signed. the deregulation of the power sector to the effect that even you can generate power to people!

Basically, the DISCOS are not being allowed to charge cost reflective tarrifs.

At one point in 2017 , they even had their bills frozen for 2 years.

Naturally, one won't be able to do much improving with such issues. Government still sets their prices, and pays them a subsidy that is not enough for their needs.

So the result is poor power supply, poor distribution and low geberation

( Just to show you how bad our generation is, Lagos alone needs 10000 MW daily for 24 hour light)

Until DISCOS are allowed to charge cost reflective tarrifs, and until there is an end to power stealing, and until universal metering is a thing...we are not going to get 24 hour light.

You can only give what you have, not what you wish you have.

Three or 4 discos have gone bankrupt because socialism

(Disclaimer: I do not support APC, PDP, LP or Tinubu. A good way to understand our power sector is to google PwC's report on the power sector...Solving the liquidity crunch in the Nigerian power sector...published in 2018 which gives a good account of the problems.)

OGA DISCOSman, who are the owners of the DISCOS? How did they assume ownership from NEPA? Maybe you should start your analysis from this point.

Once you force a company to operate at a loss, they will go broke

That is why we have never had light.

Ownership is irrelevant. ( Abuja disco was owned by a foreign company, until UBA took it over after it could not run well thanks to chronically low tarrifs set by government)

Would you let government set the price of your business so as to help the poor?

Not by signing some bill into law, what about follow up executive pronouncements and actions geared towards making sure what was signed into law is implemented

I knew this would happen. As a business man whenever I want my customers to pay more I increase quality, but if they are not willing to pay I drop quality. Simple.

We all know the country is in bad shape but would you rather run generators with 700/ltr fuel or pay more for constant power supply.

Last night everywhere in my neighbourhood was pitch black after aedc cut supply; who them born well to on gen.

Let's get prepaid metres and control our power consumption as we have with fuel. This is the only way we can get quality. The genco and discos though corrupt still needs funds for upgrades and maintenances of thier infrastructure. If they are not making good profit don't expect constant supply. It's economics.

DISCOS doesn't generate electricity, they only distribute what GENCOS generate for them.

Appropriate rate and metering is the way to go,but this is not best of time to remove electricity subsidy.

@Bopbloco grin grin. You go and register your power company with CAC and obtain necessary Certification from NERC to start ur power business. States too can do same! The signing was necessary and has been done!
