On the other hand, selling at a loss means that one does not make enough profit to fix things.

Economics
That is not the argument, the price of dollars, has no business with electricity tariffs in Nigeria.

Even aboki selling kola in the market, will tell you that it is because of the almighty US dollar, that the bitter kola price has increased?

Even if they sold in naira...ie gas, it still does not change much of anything.

The gas that fire the turbines that produce electricity are being sold in dollar, even if you produce it in Nigeria, they will price it as an international commodity.

favor914:
Why must they hike their rates, do they purchase the electricity in dollars?

Who forced them if not greed of na be get am, to go & buy toxic government assets in a sector they know nothing about?

This is for those of you who still believe that your useless and hopeless country, Liegeria, would get better. How can it get better? This is a country where your yesterday will be far better than your tomorrow. That's NOT progress, it's regression! Ask yourself, "Is your 2022 NOT better than your 2023 so far?"

Yes, because the cost of doing business forces them to do so, as well as the issues around the value of the naira.

Sold in dollars for a Nigeria to Nigeria transaction, based on what premise?

How do you strengthen the Naira when you are doing end to end business in Nigeria with the United States Dollars?

We diversify the economy, and long term, we become an exporter of manufactured goods.

We cannot rely on just oil and expect to have a strong currency.

Dude, rhetoric talk, Nigeria’s economy has been diversified by virtue of the States of the federation, they have to opt their game.

The people of Nigeria, don’t understand the copy & paste United States system of government that they exist in, they are still in colonial & military mentality.

Mind you, Oil is not more than 15% of Nigeria’s GDP.

Oil also forms most of our revenues..as at 2022, 80%

Yeah it is 15% of our GDP...the same GDP which we only get tax from 10% of it...that's why we are so reliant on oyel.

Relying on oil in Nigeria, yet Qatar Energy is declaring over $40 billion profit for 2022?

Black man is a curse with their copy & paste system of government.

Black man is a curse.

Qatar

1.Produces 1.1 m barrels of crude a day

2.Has a population of around 1.9 million people

3.So has the money and the cash to pay for its oil company to operate like a boss.

Comparing Qatar to Nigeria is like comparing a man with a salary of N300000 and ten children plus his sister's three children living with them(Nigeria), with a man with same salary but one child.(Qatar).

Which child would look well fed and well dressed and go to the better school?

Black man is a curse? No be black man wey set up Dangote ?

Typical black man, everything must be 1?

We are talking of institutions, you are mentioning one person?

Qatar should be a poor country compared to Nigeria, who has resources, population & man power.

NNPC still declare loss that same last year Qatar Energy declared over $40 billion profit? Tufiakpa with black man mentality.

My dear pal, if you do not let a company operate at a profit , palaver go start.

A lot of European companies in commuinist countries did like we do here for our power and petrol sector..they sold servicies at cheap prices and did not do profits because 'they were helping the poor'

When the commmunist regimes collapsed, all those companies could not stand against the strong profit making companies from the West. they too collapsed.AND THEY WERE ALL RUN BY WHITE MEN.

You want a succesful business...make it run at a profit, if you want to do state company, first make sure you are earning enough revenue before you start.

I agree with you. There should be a law that prohibits electricity theft and allows DisCos to switch off light within a particular radius until residents bring forth the thief. Let them do this at least until they can afford technology that can help mitigate against electricity theft.
Policing consumers is a huge cost to the power distribution companies.

Tracing of electricity theft is not that complicated.. no be wireless. Landlords should grant discos access to premises for periodic checking of the meters. Meters And external connections should follow a certain nerc mandated code.
