Two policemen were killed and three others arrested after gunmen attacked a police patrol team in Delta State.

The attack happened on Sunday, July 23, 2023, along the Ughelli/Asaba Road by IDU Roundabout, Oleh, headquarters of the Isoko South Local Government Area of the state.

The gunmen, who were numbering about six, opened fire on the police patrol team, killing two officers and injuring three others. The gunmen also carted away the service rifles of the deceased officers and set their patrol van ablaze.

The police, however, responded swiftly and launched a manhunt for the gunmen. On Monday, July 24, 2023, the police arrested two of the gunmen and recovered three AK-47 rifles and one assault rifle.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Wale Abass, has assured residents that the police will not relent in the fight against crime and criminality. He also called on well-meaning Deltans to support the police in ensuring that the state is safe for all.
