Already we've patched up a major bleeding source which is subsidy.
Time would tell the impact, but its never instant.

There will be no impact....u will wait in vain because this government has no plans to put checks in place to reduce the excesses and luxuries of the 3 arms of government..officials are still receiving pensions of past 4 or 8 years in office while serving in senate....who does that??
Past leaders are still bleeding this nation dry.. yet u are saying nigeria is broke.......u are removig subsidy on everything, including education..yet leaders are driving 250million naira bullet proof cars.....u pple are just playing....

its still business as usual ...awarding contracts for 100billion, stealing 90billion and doing 10billion contract.....again..u are just playing

Governors are still sharing security vote with no audit...no one is checking the excesses at state level.....there will be no impact....

dey there dey let media dey use sensationalism dey twist your brain. The CBN clearly scrapped the subsidised exchange rate and allow market forces to determine the real rate. Nothing like devaluation here, economic improvement would determine the positive or negative flow of those rate.

This CBN Governor may likely have the same problem Emefiele had, that is fiscal policies that are efficient from the side of Government. I saw it mentioned in the article. No matter how much a CBN Governor does with monetary policy, things may not work without the fiscal policies.

If you don't engage in massive naira printing then the nites in circulation will be reducing from loss and etc and the value will continue rising steeply! You are of course free to print but there is no need to manipulate people with flowery words. Why also are people not allowed to receive dollars from abroad without inhibition?. Is their own legitimate earnings not their property again? Kindly allow people to receive dollars from abroad and change it at their convenience because any other way is tyranny. God bless

“We are not trying to unify the rate, we are encouraging the market to be efficient and that takes time, some of the volatility you are seeing is the market finding its level and reality of pent-up demand as current supply not sufficient, as we ease the demand we see a more efficient market that runs,

This is brilliant! You can not say you are floating and then say you want to unify. To unify means you have set a price that the rates must converge but if you use monetary policies to disincentivise inefficiencies then the market can always correct and adjust itself with little intervention on the supply side from the CBN. Check my signature for free stuffs!
Not sure if you are being disingenous, clueless or just stupid? undecided

To "unify" is to make every rate the same value (i.e. no more official vs black market rate), while "floating" is how the CBN claimed it would be achieved.

"Stupid" is every Nigerian believing that things will get better with thieves in power,

They have control of majority of dollars including the ones not earned by the government which gives them room to manipulate the market added to their power to print any amount of currency. When the currency was floated the value rose but they manipulated with their power for a while for the exchange rate not to drop then they mass printed more naira to frustrate the masses so that it will look as if the stupid system of dual exchange rate is the best! The dual exchange rate is a major means of stealing money because as a government friend, you can make five hundred million dollars in a single day if you are rightly connected

Crap.. This set of CBN officials should just leave their post of they don't have am idea on the reality on ground, allow the marker to be free please, there should be nothing like black market and official I&E market.. Let everyone buy from same source, CBN interest rate is killing business up and down the country.. It should be reduced not hiked.. We have more money in the bank than what is circulating, we just experienced that in January.. Less cash in Nigeria economy does not bring down inflation.. What we need is an avenue to spur production for export.. Not sharing palliatives to people who are unproductive reduce the interest rate.. Give out contract to local contractors who must employ nothing less than 10000 workers each and be paid nothing less than 50k for even manual labour to build east west road, ibadan to Abuja railway track, kaduna to kano railway track, Lagos, onitsha, calabar railway track, Lagos, ilorin, Sokoto road, calabar jalingo to maiduguri road.. Commission them and give them 2 years to complete the contract and see the miracle and magic that will happen in Nigeria economy... FDR did the same during depression in the United States.. Why can't we copy that format and develop our economy.

you can't unify anything unless you have supply to pump into the market ... or its not in your power to do as we are not running a command economy or totalitarian regime.

If you want to unify then you must talk about availability or supply first without that then forget it

hope you are ready for price increment in the coming months?

Pump supply only for corrupt politicians that have Looted billions of naira to convert it back to hundreds of millions of dollars in cash to keep in their bedrooms

Thereby sweeping up the supply in days

You try to sound enlightened but in actual fact you are a sheeple.

Every SINGLE developed nation on this planet subsidizes something for it's citizens.

Some it's education, others food, some it's housing, others it's fuel.

The UK that is almost broke gave families £600 a month during winter to help with the heating bills

The difference btw those nations and us in this regard is just one thing.

Our subsidy program is riddled with monumental fraud.

The actors are known to all in the industry.

Why can't they be arrested and their assets seized?

No chance because they are also financiers of these same political class.

So fuel subsidy WAS THE ONLY THING that the average Nigerian benefited from residing in Naija

But because you are incapable of thinking for yourself you agree that the baby should be thrown out with the bathwater.

End subsidy you people say, instead of ending the fraud that made it so expensive.

how many countries in the world subsidise fuel aside from Libya whose population is less than 8million and its much easier to manage. Even the golf nation subsidised their fuel only because their neighbouring countries are selling at similar rate.
Sorry any how you want to package leadership. No country in the world is free of smuggling from its border.
Subsidy can be done in other sector but not fuel. Especially when you have hungry neighbours.
