Why is ministerial lists in Nigeria always look largely ordinary and non-inspiring?

I know that people who work during elections would be compensated and the president reserves the right to choose his team but why must it be the same old politicians instead of their nominees with proven qualifications, experience and professional accomplishments.

Just like Buhari's ministers, take a look at this Tinubu's ministerial list and except for a very few, you won't sense much of likelihood of visionary sparks, revolutionary ideas and passion to go extra mile except waiting on presidential initiatives and maintaining/building political structure at home-front. The list communicates a scary feeling of "business as usual" than that of transformative policies, disruptive moves and even revolutionary ideas. But the next four years will tell.

We need to change this current selection system if Nigeria will ever fly high again.

One wonders if you really know what you’re asking for…..transformative agenda, disruptive moves, etc,….but just small fuel subsidy removal, the whole country is screaming blue murder. Better let the Baba go at a pace that will allow the common man to breathe a little because you will also be the ones that will accuse him of turning the country upside-down! cool cool

No need for this. We need to cut the size of our overbloated government.
I had an open mind when Tinubu won but i have to admit this guy is just not it. I'm not expecting a miracle but at least make moves that will give us hope and something to look forward to.

Don't even dare. Buhari performed outstandingly.

He is the reason people can go from Onitsha to Awka and to Enugu today. Don't even dare! There is the 2nd Niger Bridge, Bonny-Bodo Bridge, Lagos-Abeokuta-Ibadan Railway projects etc, in Southern Nigeria...

Even the N30,000 minimum wage we want to be reviewed today was jacked up by him. Our markets have become flooded with local quality rice products, thereby enhancing our forex position and economy significantly.

No even go Buhari side abeg, try start with wetin your Local Government Chairman and State Governor achieve first....

My brother, let us even allow them increase the list of ministers to 40 if it is guaranteed that we can get results. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt.

We will be forced to remember and fight this aberration if we don't get the expected result as urgently as we need it.

May God help him, because he needs all the help now.
alright,we are patiently watching for now

We don't need more that half a dozen Federal Ministries which should reflect the exclusive responsibilities of government, like Armed Services, Justice, Internal Security, Social Investment & Finance, that's all.

All other aspects of government that either interfaces with the public or the private sector can be handled by Commissions, headed by Federal Commissioners or Directors such as Works, Energy, Telecommunications, Education, Health, etc. The private sector is heavily involved in these and do not need extra layers of the kind of bureaucracy that festers corruption.

I cannot see how a country that claims to be insolvent actively expands its government.
I cannot see how this will bring down the cost of governance or tip the federal budgets in favour of investments, aka capital expenditure.

Mr. Tinubu should think outside the box for once to bring an end to the waste called Nigeria's democratic machinery because with this kind of attitude it will take many, many years for this country to turn around.

What's wrong in rescreening? Why send names of people and the senate won't know if they are competent for the role u want to appoint them for? Why create new ministries when we are clamoring for you guys to reduce the numbers of ministries.. They are very unproductive plus Nigerian government spend almost 70l% on recurrent expenditure, we can't progress like that please oga.

exactly my thoughts.. Why create more ministries when we are suppose to even reduce the ridiculous number we have now.. They are even struggling to pay salaries and they want to create new ministries.. For what?

If the government wants to reward loyalty and party faithfuls there are many more appointments it has in store, it doesn't have to be ministerial which are critical to the survival of the country.

Nigerians must come to a realization that the most important positions should go to apolitical people, pure and unalloyed so called technocrats, because of our unique nature, tradition and circumstances that says Ministries are there as cash and privileges depositories to be exploited by the political class.

Mr. President should know that some of these folks on his list are known to have corruption issues and will stain his government and undermine whatever positive policy he has for the country for their selfish reasons. Pure technocrats are better because they have zero political stake in government and can be fired as easily as they are hired. This was the bane of the Buhari regime. The loss of control of his cabinet.

Politicians can be given posts in government owned enterprises where they will swim or sink on their performances, but will have enough private sector cover to ensure they do not drag the country down with them.

Honestly this is not inspiring.
Same ol, same ol.

If I were Mr. President no less that 3 key cabinet positions will go for international advertisement.

I will move for a radical change of legislation to incorporate non nationals where necessary into government to get the best of the best wherever they are in the world to deliver performance. The situation in Nigeria is that critical.

We need an international mirror to tell ourselves the truth as to where we are and the way out of the mess successive governments seem to be digging deeper into. We clearly need help, technical help.

It's poised to increase cost of governance and promote efficiency.

Thus, it has both advantages as well as disadvantages.

Every economic decision has consequences including opportunities and threats embedded therein. Through painstaking analysis and scenario creations, policy makers anticipate short-term and long-term consequences and this is what Tinubu's team didn't seem to have done before removal of subsidies.

You’re just another theorist my friend. People are always wiser when they do not have responsibility to call the shots ….but give them the task and they soon fumble. If you know know so much about how to get Nigeria out of the rut, why haven’t you thrown your hat in….so we see what you’re really capable of….not theorising outside the ring!
Just tell us one thing you have accomplished for Nigeria before coming to lecture us on how it is done! undecided undecided
