The Federal Government has lamented that the 2nd Niger Bridge may be blocked if miscreants continue to vandalise its metal components.

Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Mr. Mahmuda Mamman, stated this on Sunday, when he visited the bridge to ascertain the level of vandalisation.

He called on security agencies to intensity surveillance on the Bridge to curtail the activities of the miscreants, who he said were after the mental components.

He said: “We are here to see the level of vandalisation of the 2nd Niger Bridge. It was an unfortunate situation that all of us woke up to the trending news of vandalisation of some metal components on the bridge.

“This is a massive investment put up by the Federal Government to ease movement of goods and services to Nigeria. To me, free movement is a basic human right and all of us must take collective responsibility to safeguard it.

“We have interfaced with the contractor handling the project, Julius Berger, and it is really unfortunate. The Federal Government has actually done what it is supposed to do.

“We have written to security agencies concerned, asking them to intensify surveillance activities along the road so that such things will not happen.

“At the same time, host communities have a responsibility to play because safeguarding national asserts is not a responsibility of one man; it is a collective responsibility.

“What the miscreants are actually after are the metal components on the bridge; anything metal, the miscreants are after it.

There's no way of showing hatred for a tribe than this. In the South West, Lagos State not excluded the railings on the bridges in almost all the overhead bridges have been vandalized, no where has it ever been said to be the Yorubas or the South Westerns, rather it has always been ascribed to the vandals
Vandals are everywhere in Nigeria and are ready to vandalize anything within their reach that attracts their intrest.
I wonder why this post should be captioned like this, if not for hatred. There's no where in that report, that it was said to be the South Easterners.
This kind of attitude can put food on your table. The IGBOS are blessed and there's nothing your hatred will cause them.

They have been doing that to us in Lagos for ages.
They steal government infrastructure to sell.
When they are the most impoverished region in the south, this is what you expect. We pray the government develop their region and provide jobs for them
If you see the video of Enugu boys flocking into Lagos on daily basis, I fear for the safety and sanity of southwest in the hands of this eastern refugees

Madness is what makes some people to start misbehaving on social media, please tell us about how a single man stole public funds in Lagos and was cruising with bullion vans yet non of your people was able to speak about that, but you get time to write about stolen metal, you can see that your brain is not working

Exactly my tot, manholes and metal components are stolen from 3rd mainland bridge. Wike complained same was being done to his flyovers. Nobody titled it, Southwesterners or Niger deltans. It was vandals and miscreants.
Now it happens in Onitsha, the OP tags it south easterners.

Note that Nowhere in the vanguard report was south easterners mentioned, it was miscreants all through.

We do things without actually knowing the meaning. The title of this topic has accused all south easterners of being criminals and anti development, even wen there is nothing in d report to say that the culprit is actually from SE. And even if there is, do u tag an entire region as criminals because of the crime of 1 person?
Very sad indeed.

@ OP wwwihy
The seeds of discord u sow today will consume u and ur children tomorrow, keep sowing.

@ seun and mods, keep on allowing such on platform.

Where in the original article by the vanguard were south easterners mentioned?

What if it was the Yoruba engineers on site or foraging abokis?
