The exchange rate isn't an index of a country's financial standing. As of today, 1 USD equals 1,756 Italian Lira. Does that make Ghana or Nigeria better than Italy?

Besides, Ghana only did an abracadabra by redenominating their currency in 2007 by removing 4 zeros from it. So, what we have as 100 cedis today would have been 1,000,000 cedis without that redenomination. That was when their currency seemed to go better than the naira. But is the cedis technically stronger? From all indications, no!

Where there's a problem is when a currency's value to the USD fluctuates or depreciates very fast, and that's what we are facing in Nigeria. No one can dispute that. I only posted this to correct the impression that higher denominations of a currency in exchange to 1 dollar always indicate good standing for a country. Ghana is having serious problems right now, too.
