Science students and civil engineers why is this road designed like this in the middle of the forest?

Is it for cars to pack and for passengers to pee? cheesy

If your vehicle breaks down, the wider portion is for you to park and attend to your car without disrupting traffic.

I think i know the reason.

It's designed like that so that police or army checkpoints will have space by the side to park people's cars and make demands on them, or delay them on the road parks till they complied. cool

Re: Why Is This Road Designed Like This? (Pictured) by sukkot: 4:49pm On Aug 06, 2023
is a simple something na. the broken yellow line means you can now cross lanes from the inner lanes to park in there for respite and emergency that has been hooking you since eg urinating inside those bushes

The road is designed that way to clear off the busy road for pick ups and drop offs without causing obstruction. Its also meant for check ups on your car and to take or make calls

If this was to be in Lagos, Nigeria, it's for dropping and picking passengers and agbero can give them tickets for loading
Re: Why Is This Road Designed Like This? (Pictured) by micflo28(m): 4:56pm On Aug 06, 2023

I think it's to make the road more wide most especially in emergency periods

Emergency. The single yellow line is a restricted lane, that's is, only some class of road users can drive there, eg, ambulance, fire fighter, police, brt(for states like Lagos), if you are not part of the lane users and you have to stop for anything (breakdown, relax, etc), you need to leave the highway, however, you can't drive on that lane with yellow markings, that's why that space is created with a dotted line so you can drive through.

The only reasonable comment here. Unfortunately, our roads in Nigeria have no emergency lanes. Even where they were mistakenly considered, taxis, danfo, okada, and one way drivers would invade the lanes. Research shows that half of accident victims in Lagos die on their way to hospitals due to human-caused traffic jams.

Road construction are done by Civil Engineers who are science students as well. I hope you have learn that today on NL.
How about we ask Medical science students since they are also science students? You are dumb, yet trying to prove someone else as dumb. Do you think you quoted doesn't know that Civil engineers are science students?

This should be the correct reason
chicfarmer:
It's a Lay-by. It's provided at intervals in case road users need to pull over for whatever reasons without obstructing traffic.

Let us take it further and ask "humans" the same question since Civil Engineers are also humans.

No, I think living things will suffice better since civil engineers are also living things grin grin
So this question should be asked to a tree or a virus

Civil Engineer here. So believe me when I tell you it's called a highway turnout (atleast in the U.S). It can be used for several functions such as rest areas, emergency stops, bus stops and drop off points, storing maintenance vehicles and equipment. It's primarily so that the through traffic is unobstructed when carrying out these functions.

Why is the emergency just in one place ?

That means you have to drive to emergency to get an emergency?

That road is narrow and you cant afford to park anyhow so the emergency shoulders where one can safely park in case of deflated tyres, mechanical faults or wanting to take a break or ease oneself.
