The administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had constructed a monument at the roundabout in front of Government House, Kano. The monument was beautiful and a lot of people went there to take pictures, especially at night. It became an attraction in the city.

However, the new administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf demolished the monument. The governor said that the monument caused traffic jams and was a security risk. Another official claimed that it was demolished because it had a cross on it.

Some people claimed that these were just excuses and they pointed out that the new government had been demolishing a lot of structures that were built by the old government, including hotels and shops. They also said that there was no love lost between former governor Ganduje and Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the godfather of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The new administration has now constructed a fountain on the site of the demolished monument.

Wasteful.... In as much as Ganduje was called all sorts of names, we saw the projects he did in Kano.... He made people who were not Muslims or Northerners desire to go to Kano unlike this new one

The fountain is more modern looking than the monument. However, I do not support the demolition
