As Nairaland's unofficial Singaporean lover, the only feasible way to work in Singapore as a black African is to obtain a superior education and work experience from a Western country and eventually its passport. Then, apply to jobs and recruiters or transfer to the Singapore office of the firm you work for in the West. Alternatively, if you are a very top tech bro/sis, and you luckily get recruited by a firm directly from Singapore. The salaries are really high, though, for the Asia-Pacific region. Singapore competes favourably with Australia in terms of high salaries, and apart from mining, her economy is more diversified than Australia's.

Other than that, forget about Singapore. It is morbidly expensive. The rules are strictly applied, and the country is wary of Nigerian passport holders, which is why you must be on the right side at all times. Don't be surprised you could be sidelined at Changi Airport for questioning just because of the Nigerian passport, even though you have a legitimate reason for entering the country.

Finally, remove your mind from permanent residence and naturalisation. Before 2011, it could have been possible, at least PR. But now, as a black person? It is almost mission impossible. I say so because the law does not explicitly state that blacks cannot naturalise, but naturalisation is tied to one's racial group. Historically, blacks have nothing to do with Singapore. So preference starts from Chinese, Malays, Indians, then others. The others here na White people and other races like South Koreans and Japanese. Then dem Filipinos, Indonesians, Vietanmese etc. I have asked a Singaporean doctor who graduated from elite schools in the country about the possibility of a black person being a naturalised Singaporean. He first smiled and laughed, then said it was not possible. Afterwards, he said, Well, invest at least $1BN into the economy then we can think about it. Also, I have read on Reddit/Singapore where a Ghanaian was told to his face that "just because you married our woman does not mean you would get the passport. Manage the permanent residence status you have".

There you have it. grin

To an extent, it is like heaven in Asia. Japan, Taiwan and South Korea can/might be better off than Singapore. However, what makes Singapore attractive to most people, especially those of non-East Asian origin, is that it is multicultural (although Chinese dominate the city-state) and has English as one of her official languages. But those features make her very competitive to migrate to. Apart from AUSNZL, Singapore is the only developed country where English is the official language across East/South East Asia. As a result, she is very selective in who she accepts. Even companies would screen certificates if the person graduated from certain countries (Indians from the mainland have been accused of applying to work in Singapore with certificates from degree-mill institutions).

Singapore is smaller than Lagos but more populated than Bayesla. Also, it is very safe, and almost everything works there. The salaries are very high for all kinds of jobs, especially as a foreigner. Some Malaysians travel from Johor across the Causeway to work in Singapore because of the salaries. The education system is top-notch, such that parents living across the border overlooking Woodlands, Singapore, send their kids to public schools in Singapore. Foreigners are not employed to teach in Singapore's public schools.

To get a job in Singapore, employers must advertise the job to Singaporeans and permanent residents for two weeks. Only after that can the job be advertised to foreigners. The Ministry of Manpower scrutinises these things, and companies found to be wanting are fined heavily. It is also called the Fine-City because there are many fines for every offence. Some offences come with caning, and trafficking drugs comes with the death penalty, no ifs or buts. It is on the visa issued and announced when entering the country inside the aircraft. It was because of the spate of drug peddling to Singapore by Nigerians that made them cancel the visa-free status in 2006/7.

The $1BN is because citizenship is tied to race. So a Chinese who invests $5M into the economy would get approved for naturalisation over a black person who does the same. So for a black person to get it, the person has to invest more into the economy . Don't get me wrong, few blacks are naturalised citizens. But their parents got it during the '90s. There has been no recent one after the 2011 elections when the PAP lost significant votes as the citizens got fed up with the increasing population. Ever since becoming a naturalised Singapore has been extremely tough. Before then, to become a permanent resident (the first step) was like ABC if one earned a high salary.
