Lagos Accounts For 60% Of FAAN’s Revenue, Says Keyamo by peekspot(m): 6:29pm On Sep 01, 2023

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, 60 percent of the revenue of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) comes from Lagos State.

Keyamo added that this necessitates optimal use of the new terminal, according to a statement by the ministry’s Head of Press and Public Affairs, Odutayo Oluseyi, made available to Channels Television on Friday.

The minister, who spoke during his facility visit to the Lagos Airport on Thursday, also expressed the Federal Government’s desire to optimise the generating capacity of FAAN.

According to him, the new terminal has 60 check-in points and can accommodate much traffic.

FG set to optimize FAAN’s revenue generating capacity

Hon. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, CON, FCIArb.(UK) has expressed FG desire to optimize the generating capacity of FAAN.

Speaking during the facility visit of the Lagos Airport, Keyamo said 60%revenue of FAAN comes from Lagos and as such the new terminal should be used optimally. He said the new terminal has 60 check-in point and can accommodate much traffic.

Stating that the old terminal should undergo complete overhaul, he noted that the central cooling system is not working, and a lot of dilapidation needs to be fixed. He further directed that all airlines in the old terminal should move their check in counters to the new terminal within 3 months.

On concessioning of the airports and Nigeria air project, the Minister said all will be put on hold (suspended) until he briefs Mr. President on his findings. He stated that in as much as he is willing to protect the local airlines, he expects them to be more efficient and effective, noting that issues of flight cancellation and delays will be looked into and laws enforced where necessary. He further directed the removal of unserviceable aircraft by the owners for expansion of Apron.

To give space for the expansion of the new terminal to accommodate bigger aircraft, Keyamo said he will discuss with owners of private hangers within the space for possible relocation of their hangers.

Remove South West from Nigeria and watch the other noisemakers club themselves to death.

We need South West Development Commission (SWDC) too just like Niger Delta.. our cities have been polluted and degraded for far too long.

Lagos State was a former capital before it was moved to Abuja in 1991.Lagos State was also a seaport for transporting slaves to European countries. So it has been a busy port from colonial rule.

Was it FG that was controlling the administrative business of Mainland and other Lagos environ?

Why do you lots like to argue blindly, something we have debated severally on this forum.

Nigeria Capital was in Lagos Island, controlled by FG while the Mainland and other Lagos part of Lagos was under Awolowo administration.

This situation is almost economically subversive.
A country like Nigeria should have international airports spread out throughout Nigeria.
REAL international airports; not fake ones.
Make a law to redirect certain international flights to other international airports in Nigeria.
Significant percentages of Nigerian travelers to USA and far East are from Eastern Nigeria.
Flights should originate from the East DIRECTLY to USA and Asia.
European lines can be shared.
This economic sabotage should have an expiration date.
Lagos is a chaotic slum.
It needs urgent de-congestion and sanitation, both of which are impossible without breaking it's monopoly on international flights and shipping.
Nigeria should stop sabotaging Nigeria.

Abuja spilled into nassarawa. The state can never claim to be responsible for any progress in that axis

That's why Nigeria is not working — concentrating all economic, manufacturing and production activities in one state whilst the other 35 states make do with petty trading. Any wonder Lagos is so congested leading to low quality of lives for its residents??

That's not a blessing, young man. How's this bettering the lives of Lagosians who spend an average of 4 hours on the road every day, due to overpopulation?? Lagos would be be a liveable city with 5 - 7 million residents, if only FG created other Lagoses in at least each of the geopolitical zones.
