There are only two countries in the West African sub-region in which the military are disciplined and professional enough to ensure that there are no coups. The first is Nigeria and the second is Ghana.

Both are Anglophone and not Francophone countries, both have legitimate, accountable democratically-elected and constitutional Governments and Presidents with term limits, both have imbued and encouraged the culture of free speech and the rule of law.

Both have an independent and virile judiciary and finally both have President's that are rational, reasonable and progressive who are neither stooges or puppets of western imperialist and neo-colonial interests or corrupt sit tight dictators and monsters who wish to remain in power for life and then hand over to their children.

It is for this very reason that the very idea of a coup, the truncuation of democracy or the imposition of an unconstitutional Government in either of these two countries is not only unacceptable and repugnant but would also be resisted with every fiber of our collective being.

I am proud to be a Nigerian primarily because we have been able to sustain our democracy for the last 24 years and have made appreciable progress. May God continue to be with our people, defend our country, preserve and protect our democracy and guide our newly-elected President.

In 2019 Sudan's former President Omar Al-Bashir boasted that protests will never topple him. 3 months later, he was ousted by his people, ending a 30-year reign marked by corruption to the tune of $9 billion.

This should serve as a warning to people like Bola Tinubu, who is doing everything to undermine the judiciary and further violate our constitution to maintain power.

If Sudan's experience teaches us anything, it's that the illusion of invincibility can shatter in an instant. Could Nigeria be on the cusp of a similar reckoning? Only time will tell, but history has a way of repeating itself, often when least expected.

Sometimes, I think we Black Africans do not project too much into the future and are often caught up in the heat of the moment. Our ability to anticipate consequences is not as it ought to be. If not, how can you expect a soldier who seizes power and rules (not governs) without any form of checks and balances, or rule of law will provide a more prosperous and free country for you than the elected civilian that you have issues with?

Look at Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali. Their economic and security situation has worsened. They have some of the worst inflation in the world, and their citizens are facing severe deprivations. But you will not hear about it because there is no free press, and the Internet and social media are tightly controlled and censored. And when the World Bank releases economic data, you will say it is a Western conspiracy.

And then, because your preferred candidate did not win the #NigerianElections2023, you are calling for a coup in Nigeria. Just so you are aware, let me clue you in on what will happen under a military dictatorship.
•Anybody calling for secession or Biafra will be shot at sight or arrested and summarily tried before being executed.
•Nnamdi Kanu may suffer the same fate as Ken Saro Wiwa.

•Those criticising the government on social media will be treated as social nuisances and be jailed. Social media will be shut down indefinitely.
•Foreign Direct Investment will dry up, and unemployment and poverty will rise.
•Relations with the West will sour, and it will be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for Nigerians to get visas. No more japa to Japan.

•Any social unrest, like #EndSARS, or civil action like #AllEyesOnTheJudiciary will be brutally crushed.
•Television and radio stations, along with newspapers, will be shut down if they dare criticise the administration as harshly as they currently do.
•The price of food, fuel and electricity will be increased due to sanctions, and there will be nothing you can do about it. You riot, and you die. Simple.

So, please don't be seduced into thinking that the army will seize power and hand it over to your preferred candidate. That will not even happen in the most badly scripted Nollywood movie! In fact, Okwute will disappear to London. That is if they don't detain him at Heathrow! #TableShaker

Abeg people, what is Reno Omokri ranting here that has not happened or still happened under the current tyrannical APC government including the current criminal capture of state?

Why does this man always arrogates so much idiocy to himself claiming politically woke or sophisticated? Why the bilious hatred towards the same Peter Obi he once praised to high heavens? Living in this world without leaving your footprint on it.- (Bohemian philosophy).

shocked

Shame Shame Shame Shame!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since FFK has been used and mellowed down in the APC, he keeps reeling out articles full of cow dung.

Was BAT legally & democratically elected?

Election rigging is a more dangerous coup that the military's.

The military coup is against bad leaders but election rigging is a coup against the wish of the majority of citizens in a state as in the case of BAT.

FFK is hungry again, food don finish for table and so, he is back to food hunting by posting rubbish on X.

E go shock una when Military go take over for Nigeria.

To say Nigeria military is disciplined and professional is to say an average Yoruba man's gbola is disciplined.

Shut up FFK!

Ghana is a modern country that is different from Europe only because they are not organised to take personal income tax. Is Nigeria like that?. FFK's opinions are often never academic. Almost always a joke. The Nigerian President used the id of a US educated woman to gain ascendancy in politics. Is Ghana like that?. Huge nations are trapped in Nigeria competing with each other in a way that stalls progress for the whole country. Is Ghana like that?. The people who want progress but have no idea how to bring it are quiet instead of misyarning

Nigeria and Ghana should wait, until the military shocks them.

The number 1 reason behind coups are as a result of bad leadership over the years, and the last time i checked, Nigeria and Nigerians have suffered for so long, neither has the military been spared from the massive corruption.

The citizens are tired and frustrated, so i won't be surprised if a coup happens in Nigeria.

We are not immune from coups.

Most Nigerians seem to be fixed on the idea of a coup these days. Like it is the panacea for all our ills.

Toor. This coup of a thing is now reminiscing the 1960s. Africa is going backward. Even Putin won't allow coup in Russia so why support African coup plotters?
Coup plotters too no mean well for their nation. It's for them to get opportunity to eat national cakes too. The masses are always like vulnerable children in the hands of abusers be it civilian rulers or military rulers.

The only things that'll make coups difficult in Nigeria are
1) the military top brass are also part of the thievery
2) we're too divided along ethnic/religious lines

It has absolutely nothing to do with professionalism and discipline as this man claims
