In a show of solidarity with the nationwide two-day warning strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), labour leaders took to the streets in Akure, Ondo State, to ensure compliance. Workers were chased out of their offices at the state secretariat, creating a stir in government institutions and banks alike.

The strike, monitored by NLC Chairman Comrade Victor Amoko, was described as successful. It was called in protest of the removal of fuel subsidies, which has had a profound impact on the Nigerian workforce and the general population.

However, the strike was not without controversy. The state Head of Civil Service, Mr. Kayode Ogundele, compelled workers to return to work, threatening to withhold salaries from those who didn't comply. This move was met with opposition from the NLC, as it was perceived as an attempt to undermine the strike.

Ogundele, on the other hand, claimed that workers in the state were not officially informed about the strike by the NLC. The Trade Union Congress (TUC) had also distanced itself from the strike.

The strike had a ripple effect on the state, with all banks in the capital city locked and inaccessible to customers. The closure was a precautionary measure taken by the banks to avoid any unforeseen circumstances during the strike.

In other parts of the country, including Jigawa State, government offices, banks, and higher institutions experienced total compliance with the strike. Workers across various sectors stood in solidarity with the NLC's call for resistance against the fuel subsidy removal, which has led to economic hardships for many Nigerians.

The strike has highlighted the ongoing tension between the NLC and the government regarding the removal of fuel subsidies, emphasizing the importance of addressing the concerns of the Nigerian workforce and finding a lasting solution to the economic challenges faced by the citizens.
