You are just regurgitating Igbo narratives about the late sage . Awo had no way of stopping that dumb war that Ojukwu (& the fulanis) wanted and got.

Awo's so-called "threat" couldn't have stopped the war as it was made in August 1st, 1966 and to his constituency- western region, whilst the war started in July 1967.

Moreover, what you now referred to as "threat" , your igbo brothers dubbed it, "a gentleman's agreement " between Ojukwu and Awo to which the latter allegedly reneged on and thereafter you lot have been calling Awo, a betrayer and conveniently extend it to his tribesmen, too.
.

Below is Awo's verbatim statement on May 1 1967.
Not only that, he also could have invoked Aburi accord. Instead he became active participant in the war!

OLODO RABATA! They asked you “what is your name” You answered “ I was born in 1969”. See how you get F9 without any struggle
yarimo:
Well TINUBU is already greater than anyone in the whole east death or alive

Awo never wanted the war, it was forced on him by the two protagonists and as such he chose which side is more in the interest of his people.

—In politics, Tinubu is greater than Awolowo.

—But in governance and administration, no Nigeria leader dead or alive come close to Pa Obafemi Awolowo.

Nonsense. Awo was simply a corrupt opportunist like most Nigerians. He couldn't resist stupendous oil money that was starting to pour in. He became finance minister to a nobody and of course mysteriously became stupendously wealthy (we can guess how). But unlike Tinubu he couldn't use it to buy presidency!

Exactly. Except that Azikiwe wasn't looking at oil money. He did it so the North won't have excuse to run away

He is already greater than Awo in the eyes of connies grin

Og course, Zik wasn't after the oil money from the minority tribe in Eastern region rather he was more concerned about the fulanis leaving the union.
Oh well, I guess zik- the beautiful bride from the east- got what he wanted. Now the rest of us are now in a one chance bus to nowhere.

Don't blame him too much. He grew up in the North and spoke Hausa better than Igbo, lived in the West and spoke Yoruba fluently. Igbos claimed him but he was Nigerian in his mind. So what would he be if there was no Nigeria

Yeah, just as SOME Igbos rate MNK. Doesn't make him great. Tinubu is more detribalized, a city boy, plus a moslem

City boy; accepted.

More detribalized; His appointments didn't show that, he doesn't even believe in one nigeria, just that he's more deceptive and crooked in his dealings.

Plus a moslem; off point.

It's a comparison. More detribalized THAN Awo.
You can't grow up Lagos and be a rabid tribalist!

All North is Moslem. It's a HUGE political advantage for a person from South

Igbo. Zik was born by Igbo parents before the Amalgamation so he was Igbo.

Zik became the president of ISU- Igbo state union- a purely tribal organisation, in 1948. At the one year anniversary of ISU in 1949, Zik made a speech prophesying how ONLY his Igbo people can save Africa from the chains of bondage.

Note, he did not say "Nigerians" rather Igbo "cause deep down inspite of all the platitudes about his language skills, he is still an Igbo man from Onitsha.

I don't know what he said. Politicians can say anything to please whoever they're speaking to at the time. You go by what they DO.
After his studies in US Zik never neared nor touted Igbo land except when speaking to them, after THEY chose him

Of course, you don't know what zik said, but you know everything Awo said

Awolowo is only great in Yoruba land. His grandson, Seyi could not secure vote in the first week of BBN All-star competition

Back from ban. Have absolutely no idea why I was banned.
I go by what they DID.
Awo went back to Yorubaland, formed a strictly tribal group (don't want to mention name - maybe that's why I was banned), advocated regionalism or break up, and said Nigeria was "a mere geographic expression."
Zik on the other hand, after his studies, went to Ghana and started "West African Pilot", joined Herbert Macaulay in non-tribal NCNC, was totally against regionalism, and would do anything to prevent break-up of Nigeria.
That's what they DID!
