What's the penalty for coming to work late?

I support the Minister fully on this one!

Anything to bring sanity to the system is welcome by me.

These same workers , I'm sure, frustrated Fashola and the previous ministers. Any minister who wants to make a difference must be ready to break the so called civil service rules and do things differently otherwise, the so called civil service rules would continue to frustrate efforts to get things working!

Simply come to work early or resign!
Nonsense!
Kudos to Umahi!

If you can't cope why not resign??
seunlayi:
See dem, if not for corruption, most of these people supposed to have abandoned their work without waiting for NLC or TUC strike notice. How are they coping with their salaries in this Tinubu economy? Why will a ministry lock workers out due to lateness during this subsidy period when some workers have been allowed to only come to office 3 times max in a week. I can see this ministry experiencing a total lockdown when the proposed strike kick off

Federal public service is very different from the state service. Any minister that want to take on the civil servant will run into trouble sooner than later. Umahi needs to calm down and work with the ministry staff if he intends to achieve anything meaningful in the ministry.

You are talking rubbish. Who is the employer here. They should sack any worker that comes late. Why should employer be begging his employees to come early to work. Nonsense!!!

I don't like this government but I am in support of what the minister did. Most government workers comes to work as they wish. Some people comes around 12 o'clock and close by 2 o'clock PM. What rubbish is that.
If we want to see seriousness we must privatized most government institutions.
State secretariat is even the worst.

So in essence Umahi should turn a blind eye to corruption in the system because it's a federal ministry abi?

It's this kind of mentality that has brought the country to its current distasteful situation where corruption is entrenched in every sphere of life.

Nigeria civil service is a den of thieves. Imagine protesting when you're late to work. Can any of these low lives try it in a private sector?

You want work

You look for work

Then you get work

But you refuse to work

Nigeria workers indeed.

The CIVIL SERVANTS and the UNIONS that back them are the problem of Nigeria, not the politicians. The day Nigerians realize this, 50% of Nigeria's problems will be solved.

To get Nigeria working, a thorough purge of the entire civil service is something that Must be done. The decay in the country is civil servants that you blame whether from the CBN to NNPC to Port Authority to Customs, Immigration etc, the list is endless.

They came late and the boss was trying to make a statement by not allowing them into the office. I'm sure he doesn't do that daily. He's thier boss, I don't understand why they feel he's wrong for refusing them entry into the office for coming to work late. What's the logic? That the boss shouldn't have the authority to discipline them? Maybe he's overly strict, but they chose the wrong time to fight back. Nobody will support them for this.

On the other hand, I think Umahi should focus more on disciplining the department leads. They will in turn discipline the unit leads who will eventually discipline the team members. Also, the presidency that employed him should make a statement backing him up. That's basically what is needed to put the workers in check.
