ECONOMY | The National Bureau of Statistics reports in its Quarterly publications (Q2 2023) that Nigerians are earning N430,000 per person on average and N340,000 on median basis in 2023.

The average salary takes cognisance of the earnings of the rich and the poor; while the median shows that the 50th percentile workman earns about exactly N340,000 in 2023, with half of the Nigerian population earning less than this amount, and the other half earning more.

Also the combined salary of the lower half is far less that of the upper half, with the bottom 10% of the country estimated to earn about N14,000 monthly. This could be due to severe or lone exploited work. The top 25% are estimated to earn above N2,097,000 on average.

The average salary varies depending on a number of factors, including industry, education level, and experience. The highest-paying industries in Nigeria are oil and gas, financial services, and telecommunications. The highest-paid professionals are typically those with advanced degrees and many years of experience.

The NBS also reports that the minimum wage in Nigeria is 30,000 NGN per month. However, many Nigerians earn less than this amount, particularly those in the informal sector.

It is important to note that the cost of living in Nigeria is relatively high, especially in urban areas. As a result, many Nigerians struggle to make ends meet, even if they are earning the average salary.

This nbs isn't in touch with reality on ground. They said we had 4% or so unemployment in Nigeria. Now the average is collecting 300k plus for this Nigeria wey me and you dey so. How many government workers don see 300k if not for corruption
