The fraud and corruption in the country is terrible, there were foreign investors in those states mentioned but the governor's won't inform the federal government to aviod remitting taxes.

Good afternoon everyone

I for one dont see the use of FDI for a developing economy at all

In fact FDI is anti development for a developing nation

FDI only makes sense if the investor relocats ans stays in the place he is investing

For an economy to grow ( money coming in -money going out) >0 ....

It's that simple

So am economy X worth $### ... And investor invests $100 ... The economy of X becomes $###+100

But that same investors takes out $1000 over 5 years in profit

All this being equal the economy would then be $###+100 -$###+1000 ... So the economy decreased by $900 dollars

The best way to grow and economy is to give your people ( that's have show capacity) credit to start to produce a) things you import at a comparative rate b) things you can export

It's not rockets science

Indeed it is not rocket science however such investments need not be at the host economy's loss or disadvantage. We have gone around the FDI since the days of Gowon when the importance of knowledge transfer was itemized. The amount of useful knowledge transferred is left to your determination.

The foreign investor is not a charity and is entitled to some profit. The responsibility of the country in which the investment is made is to ensure the guiding contracts are well drawn up and implemented.

Richard Branson's Virgin Atlantic pulled out of the Virgin Nigeria contract due to the greed and corrupt nature of the Nigerian component where everyone in position of authority to as he says cleaners wanted to be paid to do what is right or wrong. Where do these extra expenses go, how are they accounted for?

Did Nigeria convert the foreign presence to develop our rubber and petrochemical industry so we could produce a majorly if not solely Nigerian industry producing rubber products like tyres etc.? Rather we failed to even provide an enabling environment so Michelin, Dunlop left Nigeria yet still use our market size to rake in revenue. This of course is in collaboration with Nigerians. Should we mention the drug industry which use Nigerians as ceremonial board members without any power to create an avenue to sell drugs which they claim are manufactured in Nigeria?

Indorama is an Asian owned company that bought over a failing NNPC Eleme petrochemical company and have turned it around. Most of our food processing companies like 7up, GSK (former owners of the Ribena drink) are foreign owned? Why? Malaysia that got got the oil palm from Nigeria is one of the largest world producers and position to frustrate the development of our local production. In any case how much development has gone into our own local production?

Or is it the same Nigerians that vandalize and steal power equipment further frustrating the presence of affordable efficient power supply which are critical to enabling us produce at competitive rates with the foreign competition?

A collective dedication to do things better in a diligent manner is what we need.

Very flawed analysis. FDI improves local production and potentially export. China had a lot of FDI and still grew to be the biggest economy. Vietnam is growing now because of a lot of FDI going into their manufacturing sector and turning them into a hub for production.
As long as you generate production, create jobs and the government mandates a minimum required local participation it'll benefit the host country.

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is different from foreign portfolio investment (FPI).

The former relates to a cross-border investment in which a foreign investor establishes a lasting interest in and a significant degree of influence over an enterprise resident in a foreign economy. This can range from just to building new facility, and a lasting management interest (10 percent or more of voting stock) in an enterprise operating in an economy other than that of the investor. For instance, if the MTN, Shortight, and DSTV are examples of FDI.

So, FDI actually spurs growth. The issue you painted have to do with FPI which is often considered "hot money".

What is the disadvantage of FDI in today Nigeria?

How does the current inflow of FDI affect the growth of Nigeria?

Lastly, why do you have to type this long epistle and what is your main aim?

If his useless state is the number one investors destination, he will have good things to say about FDI.

Quit calling out states as if we are operating true federalism and decentralized governments.

Look at this one o, you better stop deceiving yourself.
So because majority failed an exam, those who made an " A " are also failures?.

I can't help your poor comprehension.

You can't judge states in isolation in a nation that doesn't practice regional or decentralized governments.

It's as simple as that.
