Lagos Govt Reopens Sealed Ladipo Market.

The government said business activities would commence at the popular spare parts market, after its recent closure for various environmental infractions.

The Lagos State Government has reopened Ladipo Market, Mushin, after meeting “the most essential criteria.”

This was disclosed in a statement by the Public Affairs Director in the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Mrs Kadiri Folashade, on Monday.

She quoted the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, as saying that business activities would commence at the popular spare parts market, after its recent closure for various environmental infractions.

The Commissioner noted that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu priotised the issue of clean environment, public health, and safety in line with the THEMES Plus agenda, which informed the recent drive to enforce strict compliance with waste management best practice across markets in the state.

The Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to environmental sustainability and public safety, particularly within markets and around business facilities, stressing that the goal was to ensure all markets in Lagos State, followed laid down environmental rules, resulting in a safer and healthier business environment for buyers and sellers.

Gbadegesin urged the traders to support the efforts of the state government by adhering strictly to the environmental laws, as markets that runs foul risked indefinite closure.

South East Governors should be vocal. Matters like this gave birth to Nnamdi Kanu. I am not saying, they have infleunce over what happens in other state's or the ministry shouldnt do thier work, but matters like this are a result of bad Negotiation.

Am sure millions were used for settlement as igbos are bad negotiators when it comes to civil matters. Ex Governors should be in the forefront of this arrangements whether it maters or not.

They should have left it closed down.

By the time their vehicles break down and they can't source cheaper parts they will import new oem ones or be stealing it from other parked working vehicles in yards or on the streets. grin

Smh. So you think cars have been breaking down on Lagos roads all these days? You just don't get it and it's a pity.

LASG can even send all of them packing permanently and that's it. With comments like this, I will not be surprised when that day come. The place is not even meant for a market and there are tonnes of petitions calling for the relocation of that market elsewhere in the far outskirts of Lagos.

How many Yoruba-dominated markets are in your own Igbo state? There's none. So give the Yoruba in your state such opportunities too so that Igbo in Ladipo will appreciate the need to keep and maintain the environment here in Yorubaland because they will not want to lose the Yoruba market in Igboland. This current system where you keep all your own and take of other people's resources is unjust and unsustainable.

You have your own resources immensely in Igboland that you can give in exchange for same opportunities you enjoy in Yorubaland. When you give others same opportunities in your Igboland to the Yoruba then we collaborate by reciprocity.

Nobody will feel cheated with collaboration by reciprocity based on love for equity and justice but if you withhold your own resources and don't release your own in exchange with the Yoruba, it's just a matter of time that the Yoruba will take their own resources from you and demand that you release your own in reciprocity first before they give you theirs. There's love, peace and progress in sharing our resources and exchanging to help one another. .

WE NOW KNOW THAT "LAGOS IS NO-MAN'S LAND" MANTRA IS NOT A WISE STATEMENT TO MAKE. WHO HAS THE POWER TO CLOSE THE MARKET OBVIOUSLY OWNS THE LAND ON WHICH IT IS BUILT. IT IS FOOLHARDY AND HEAD-SLAMMING TO DENY THE OBVIOUS.

1. LASG will send them packing after collecting revenue from iya tilunbu. Its not meant for market because they bought it from ronu and convert it to personal hub for commercial distribution.
The revenue weh dem dey collect for refuse and ordeliness by your state govt why dem no dey use am perfom there task.

2. Ignorancy of knowledge will not allow you to know we Igbos will kpatakpata carry our commodities find another hub to distribute it kpokpam.

3. Our states is for the strong and ronu cant cope with it thats why they resort only in textiles and fabrics. Some engage in building sites and construction but you see to adapt and commecialise a desginated location and begin to distribute Agbado and Agbo jedi jedi will be a very hard task. Even restaurant will crumble cos nobody will eat Ewedu gbegiri which i love so much.
