1.The oil money isn't enough. It isn't enough

2.The article says so...most states are not making enough to cover operational costs.

See no 2 above.

At the end, the states have to make more money. And the only way they can do so is by TAXES. The alternative is more loans.,...which most Nigerians do not want, especially since loan servicing is now chopping a large bit of our oil revenue.

It's a hard choice. Taxes, or we further get into the clutches of the IMF and world bank. They both don't give free gifts.

States can build massive farms and exports farm produce to make billions of $$ and can also build factories and processing facilities to get other by-products of the farm products.

Oil money is more than enough if the Federal govt refineries were working and if states also had their own refineries.. I still see it as shocking that state governments especially the oil producing states don't own their own refineries..

It's been tried several times before, and most of the time they failed because they simply were not run at a profit. At the end of the day, the same thing will happen.

And no, the oil money is not enough. There is a cold reason why Qatar is prosperous and Nigeria isn't despite producing 1.2m barrles of crude a day (Nigeria 1.8m). Population

Which is why, at the end of the day, we have to be a manufacturer of goods and services, and exporting what we produce, not exporting raw materials. Whose prices we do not set.

states already have state companies in waste management, traffic management, revenue management, state owned hospitals, state owned airports e.t.c. are all state owned companies and have not failed like you falsely claim...

this is not about Nigeria's population, it is not the federal govt that will build state roads, state schools, state hospitals, state parks, state drainages e.t.c.

its not about them been profitable its about the infrastructure been available.

Not an exact comparison...plus there are a lot of online companies including social media that are making profits.

You can use the German railway company as a good example, it hasn't made a profit. But Germany also has high tax rates and has a high tax to gdp, AND a diversifed economy, so it can afford the losses so to speak.




They are not doing well either. Many of you go to the private companies. And waste and traffic management is atrocious.

Plus as for waste, some states eg Lagos and the FCT concession waste management to private companies....

What does management have to do with IGR and GDP.

Nigerian goverment cant even manage the oil properly. The one they have they haven't managed, you want to give them more.

UAE manages their oil, they have multiple refineries and the goverment owns all of it.

Nigeria doesnt have any working refineries, and we are suffering from massive oil theft, and corruption.

Manage the one you have now, when you can manage that we give u more.

If you give someone who cant manage 5, 10. What makes you think you will get a different result?

Nigeria needs to work on nationalizing mineral and oil etc. Thats the role of a goverment. then use the money to build infrastructure. We should be owning every part of the resource pipeline to maximize profits. Then use the profits to build trains, roads and to give security.

Thats the role of a goverment. Not to tax the heck out of its people and scare businesses and Foreign investors away.
