From experience, i have learnt that ranking in Google.com is not the same as in Google.com.ng. A small organization which  quickly wants some sales needs advertising but if you want some brand name and success in long term seo can be useful for you.

Not really, a small company needs SEO to make sales. Adverts will bring almost the same as SEO. SEO (and by extention SEM) includes brand name recognition by the use of targeted name awareness strategies. If you are serious about SEO your brand gets "advertised" in the process.
