The Igbos were republican and stubborn against colonialists, they were known to rebel against any man who tries to lord over them, unlike we feudal and monarchical yorubas who invited colonialists to invade our land.

Read the Aba women riot, read about the Ekumeku war (the longest war between the British and any African tribe), read about Igbo landing and read Achebe's Things fall apart.

Rebels are not usually liked by the white colonialists, so it is not unusual that they will make up the most of their prisoners.

Sorry to burst your bubble, my dear yoruba brother. Truth is bitter, but must be swallowed..

Be deceiving yourself. SW is 90% yoruba. And their prisons are 90% yoruba as well.

Are you trying to say the Igbo people have been associated with crime since the 1950s...

We should take into cognizance here that the igbos were buttnaked and primitive at this time (they're still primitive now, but not as much as at that time). So, many of their subhuman practices they call culture would definitely run foul of human laws. Also, their natural antisocial tendencies may also add to their high number in prisons then.

This was during the colonialist era, while yorubas were meek and welcome the colonial power, the Ibos really gave the colonial mongrels a hard time. From the Anglo-Ekumeku wars to the Anglo-Aro wars, and the Aba women riots against excruciating taxation, the Ibo would refuse to be lorded over without taking a good pound of flesh from the British colonial. While we yorubas and hausas were simply 'Halleluyah boys' and house slaves of the British, the Igbo were giving it to them hot!

That explains why many Ibos were thrown into colonial prison. Even Zik was once imprisoned in Broad Street prisons which is now known as 'Freedom Park' overlooking the General Hospital Lagos.

It also explains why they (British) fought very hard against the Igbos during the Biafra Civil wars, where Hausa and Yorubas were just tools in the British hands.

The Igbos were good rebels against the Brutish British. They should be proud.

You get am.

Yorubas were the easiest to colonize, in fact we yorubas invited the British to colonize Yorubaland during the Intra-yoruba kiriji wars which almost decimated yoruba population.
