Suffice to say, Lagos was founded by no one; still a no man's land.

Supremos:

Meanwhile, the Balogun of Eko Abisoye Oyeyemi Oshodi said his lineage is Nupe.

Does it mean there are indigenous Nupe people in Lagos?

There are indigenous Benin people in Lagos?

There are indigenous Braziliana in Lagos too?

There are indigenous Yorubas in Lagos!

It's only in a disjointed country that people lay claim to ownership of any city.
Nigeria is not one country but proceeds from crude oil in the Niger delta region make some Nigerian groups clutch tight to one Nigeria.
Who owns London or Manchester? Not even a clown from England will lay claim to ownership of London or any other English city.
In Nigeria, proceeds from crude oil were lavished on building Lagos since the 1960s.

Who is the person that captured him as slave ?

Abi don't you know the distance between Nupe territory and Lagos?

Which history traced him to be a slave?

In Yoruba language, Nupe is called Tapa.

Oshodi Tapa was a servant in the palace and by providence was selected by the King when the Colonialist requested that the King nominate someone for schooling. That was how Oshodi Tapa became one the earliest residents of Lagos to acquire western education.

Lol.

The Fulanis and Yoruba civil war is what led to the capturing of Yorubas in Yoruba land. It was even on record that the British had to call a meeting of Yorubas in Lagos in the early 1990s to settle the dispute of that civil war

However, what is the reason Nupes will be captured as slaves and sold in Yorubaland even when thriving Nupe communities exist all over Yoruba land before colonial period.
Sl respec
Slaves were captured all over west Africa by Arabs and different tribes and sold to Europeans that brought them to the Coast. Lagos is a coaster city. Many slaves from the hinterland were brought to Lagos to ship to the new world. Is Nupe the farthest place in west Africa from the coast?

Comedy indeed

Apart from Wikipedia which declared Oshodi Tapa as a slave from Bida who lost his parents at the age of six,.......then served the King Eshilokun as his servant, ....... later in life, due to his loyalty, talents, smartness and peace loving attitude, even though he was a warrior, became a great rich man with power and influence, and humility and great loyalty.

Keywords: slave, servant, Epe, Epetedo, 46 living children, monument, balogun, Portuguese, America, Kosoko, Akintoye etc

the oba might be right in those days there was nothing like Lagos, others might have inhabited a part of what is now known as Lagos, same reason why you have different kingdoms in various states right now, like you have the Ooni of ife in modern day osun, in that same osun state I believe there are other kingdoms too, and as such the Ooni can't lay claim to the entire osun state, even in Edo state you have others kings from esan land the oba of Benin can't lay claim to the entire Edo state, so also the Yorubas can't lay claim to the entire Lagos, the name Eko is of Benin origin, even towns like eti -osa, idumota are all of Benin origin, saying the aworis were here before the Benins' came does not mean they own the entire lagos of today. everyone knows the Lagos island is the most economical viable part of Lagos and that was the very same part the binis administered, there is hardly a state in Nigeria where you have just one traditional ruler who ruled over the states the Yoruba influence was only a part of it.

His Ancestor, Oshodi Tapa was a Nupe slave, manumissioned by one Oba Of Lagos (Eleko then)

It wasn't that there were indigenous Tapas in Lagos, this man Oshodi Tapa was a slave brought to Lagos from Nupe land...

My mother told me that many people claiming Apatira were children of slaves of the true family. The slaves have different tribes and nationalities. Though the Apatira was a Kanuri man from Bornu who came fishing and settled in Lagos Island, Ita faji area.

Ashipa wasn’t a Benin man - he was an Awori man from Isheri. He only went to Benin to seek alliance in order to create a dynasty in Eko, which was already a settlement for trading by various groups. But the land itself was owned by Olofin (an Awori man).

Ashipa only married a Benin woman and they had a son called, “Ado”, who later became the first Eleko of Eko.

And you’re right - Benin never founded Eko nor own anything there. Also, during the initial incursions of the Benins in Eko where they tried to seize the land militarily - they were soundly defeated multiple times.

There’s an Adeniji-Adele Prince I follow on Twitter that has been disgracing his forebears by asserting that Eko was a Benin colony albeit he denied Benin founded Eko tho. Something needs to be done about Yoruba people and the fact that most of us don’t know our history, especially those from royal bloodlines who might end up as kings hence we keep having these useless owanbe kings that go around desecrating the thrones of our ancestors.

Anyway, Oba of Benin is a Yoruba man from the Oranmiyan bloodline and he needs to act right and do better. Going to Lagos to make such an unguarded statement is a declaration of war. Too bad the new generation of Yorubas are weak and docile hence every dog stay desecrating our lands brazenly.

You claim that Ashipa (which is actually a Benin word corrupted from Aisipa) to be an Awori name. Please , what’s the meaning of Ashipa in Awori ?

Honestly , Yorubas needs to “come out of their fear of losing Lagos” to start telling TRUTHFUL histories instead of bastardizing history. How can you say Ashipa is an Awori man ? 😂😅 I mean, what kind of rubbish is this? You’re not an Awori man, you came later after the Aworis, how then did you know it was an Awori name ? Did Awori ever told you that ? Why then is all the past Obas buried in Benin ? Do you know what that signifies ? Why would Benin decide to bury an Awori man in Benin ? What kind of rubbish narratives is this ? Oh my God! Ah! I’m just shocked at the way you people try to twist history.

The name oshodi, we read is from Nupe.

The name Oshodi CANNOT be from Nupe. The reason is simple, the man later came to be known as Chief Oshodi Tapa (full name), was adopted at a very tender age. A man who knows nothing about his parent who died in war.

He was adopted by King Eshilokun in Lagos. It is evidently that the name was given to him by King Eshilokun, with an appendage of Tapa as his surname. He didn’t bring that name “Oshodi” from Nupe. It is impossible.

Oshodi is actually a Benin name. Eguoshodi is Village of the Oshodis. And if you’re conversant with University of Benin , the student area at Ugbowo, the popular place called Ekosodin. This stems from Eko-Osodin meaning the camp of Oshodi. I mean so many others like that.

There’s probably an adoption of the name Oshodi and given to Chief Tapa. But that name Oshodi isn’t a Nupe name. Thank you
