In my opinion, there us No difference. One is by military and backed by decree whike the other is by civilians backed by laws promulgated by the military.

As per cost of governance, military is wdy cheaper.

No over 500 members of NASS to feed fat on our treasury. No 36 x 20 house of Assembly members to loot treasury, no 7740 councillors to share allocation. Infact most parastatals woukd be run by Sole Administratirs.
No INEC to waste 300 billions on nonesense, no need for36 RECs and State SIECs and their staff. No need for police and military mobilization for useless midterm polls.
The benefits of one owner another is unqusntifidbke.

You can't rig election without Hope Uzodinma, Umahi, Wike, Gbajabiamilla, Bello, Ribadu, Abdullahi, Akpan, Oruwari, Asari etc (observe the national outlook) collaboration.
But you can carry out a coup with just Muhammed, Suleiman, Abdullahi and Sanusi.

Rigged elections and military rule are both forms of undemocratic governance, but they differ in their methods and consequences.

**Rigged elections** occur when the results of an election are manipulated to favor a particular candidate or party. This can be done through various means, such as stuffing ballot boxes, altering vote tallies, or intimidating voters. Rigged elections undermine the legitimacy of the democratic process and can lead to widespread political instability.

**Military rule**, on the other hand, is a system of government in which a military junta takes control of the government, often by force. Military rulers often suspend or abolish the constitution and restrict civil liberties. Military rule can be characterized by a lack of accountability, transparency, and respect for human rights.

**Here is a table summarizing the key differences between rigged elections and military rule:**

| Feature | Rigged Elections | Military Rule |
|---|---|---|
| **Method of governance** | Manipulation of the electoral process | Dictatorship by the military |
| **Legitimacy** | Lacks legitimate democratic authority | Lacks popular support and legitimacy |
| **Consequences** | Undermines democratic institutions and processes | Can lead to human rights abuses, political repression, and economic stagnation |

In some cases, there may be a blurry line between rigged elections and military rule. For example, a military coup may be preceded by a period of rigged elections in which the military signals its displeasure with the outcome. Similarly, a government that has rigged elections may become increasingly authoritarian, eventually morphing into a de facto military rule.

Regardless of the specific circumstances, both rigged elections and military rule represent grave threats to democracy. They undermine the fundamental principles of free and fair elections, popular sovereignty, and the rule of law. When these principles are eroded, the foundations of a stable and prosperous society are weakened.

Anyone who rigs the election to get into office has no intention of doing the right thing. In fact, junta takeoff can even be better sometimes because the military often intervenes in the leadership of a country when there's perceived dissatisfaction among the people. Afterwards, they rule for some years and fix a date to organise an election.

If the military head happens to be a good person, you will see rapid development in the country. For instance, the military built all three state-owned refineries we have in Nigeria when they realised that crude oil was the mainstay of the Nigerian economy. On the other hand, these criminals who call themselves civilians have spent 25 years in power without building a single refinery.

The difference is that when your prefered candidate lose in an election,it becomes rigging and you see those that voted for the winner as coup plotters.if you choose not to get brain, thats your personal problem.incumbent trump lost election to biden and nobody is shouting rigging.

Haba, the difference between a rigged election and a military coup.
I'm sure whoever asked this question didn't witness a military coup in Nigeria.
Coups are bloody, involves the large deployment of arms by the coup plotters during and after the coup, suspension of the rights of the citizens, there's no primary election to even chose who will stand for election and finally there's no court to run to seek justice cos the jackboot officers believe they are superior to any court in the land.
But rigging on the hand doesn't involve too much violence, rigging can even be monetized, whereby people are even paid to sell their votes,at least the issue in contention is whether a party inflated their figures or not, meaning votes were counted, just that the figures were changed.
Finally the court has the power to cancel a rigged election and order for a new election to be conducted or the rightful winner be declared as seen in the case of Peter Obi in Anambra in 2004.
I detest military rule with a passion, those army officers were never trained to lead civilians in any country, they have no training on what it means to lead a country. Leadership is not by fiat or force and that's the only language the military understands.
Only a neophyte will ever subscribe to those animals in human skin taking over leadership in any country in the world.
